Building up and securing your nation against external threats will require a lot of strategic planning. While trying to gain better influence from your neighboring states, you would be tempted to relocate your capital to gain proximity and control. If you aren’t sure how to do that, this guide will explain how to move capital in Europa Universalis V.
Relocating Capital in Europa Universalis V

To relocate your capital, select the Government tab under your profile picture, then select the Country sub-tab to find the Move Capital option. Then, select the region you wish to move to, or browse through the list of areas on the menu on your left to pick a new location. Moving your capital requires resources like Books, and also you need to meet the Stability criteria and improve Government Power. After selecting your new state to move to, you will get a notification on what you are lacking.
If you require books, there are two ways to get them: either by building a Scriptorium, or by trading. If going through the trading route, search for Books under the Market tab of your economy. This will show all available markets from other countries willing to trade the item for a price. Otherwise, find the Scriptorium building under the Production tab and build a couple of them within your region to produce books at your leisure.
Gaining Control of the New Capital

To increase the speed of control, head into your Cabinet and scroll down to find the Increase Province Control option. Depending on your current level, you will require an increase of Administrative skill points to spend here to unlock and use the skill. Then, select the new capital to implement the ability. As for your former capital area, the control within it will slowly start to decline automatically. You can hover your cursor over the new capital and the old one to see how much control you have.
Benefits of Relocating the Capital
Moving your capital helps you decrease the proximity range between the areas you have your eyes on. This gives you an easier time gaining control over your neighboring states. Plus, if you have moved to a favorable terrain, then you can work on your road and water transportation to support trading and military activities.
Whether moving capital is a requirement entirely depends on your gameplay requirements. You get additional power and new resources to handle once you find a suitable terrain to move to. But, if you don’t want to start from scratch and are already at an optimal position, then utilize your existing capital’s influence to gain power and control over other regions.
