Building your defense is an important aspect of surviving in DayZ, and things can get tough rather quickly. If you haven’t learnt how to keep zombies or other players out of your base, then you need to work on fortifying your camp. One of the crucial components that you need to build is a gate, and you will require tons of tools and materials to get started. This guide will break down how to build a gate in DayZ.
DayZ Gate Guide: How To Build Gates
Gates can be built after owning a Fence Kit, and you can craft a Fence Kit by combining 2x Sticks and 1x Rope. You can also use a Watchtower Kit for this too, it just requires 4x Sticks and 1x Rope instead. You can collect Rope from industrial areas or by combining two stacks of 6x rags. Once that is done, place your Fence Kit or Watchtower Kit down on the floor where you would like to start building.
Some other tools and materials that you will require are:
- 2x Wooden Logs (4x Wooden Logs for Watchtower)
- 20x Planks
- 36x Nails or 1x Box of Nails
- 1x Metal Wire
- 1x Hammer/ Hatchet/ Mallet
- 1x Shovel/ Gardening Hoe/ Pickaxe
- 1x Pliers
Once you have all of the above materials, let’s get to making a fence and, ultimately, a gate. Just follow the steps below.
- Pick up your wooden logs and place them within the fence base.
- Next, pick up your shovel and aim at the wooden logs till you get an option to build.
- Start building, which will then erect the wooden logs upright. You will also get your Fence Kit back.
- Pick up your planks and hover near the wooden logs till you get an option to attach them.
- If you haven’t located any planks yet, you can convert Lumber Piles from industrial areas and use the ax to get planks.
- Do the same for both plank sets and set them down near the base of the logs.
- Your next task is to pick up the box of nails and open it up to collect the nails. Hover over the planks with the nails to get the Attach option.
- Attach the Metal Wire as well, which is the final step in the assembly process. Metal Wires can be crafted by combining Barbed Wires with Pliers.
- You can now start building the fence. Use your hatchet or ax to start building the upper and lower frames. Be sure that you don’t accidentally select the dismantle option while building.
- Keep pointing your hatchet at the wooden frame to start placing planks.
- You now have your wooden fence ready, but we still need to convert it into a gate.
- Pick up the pliers and make sure that you have the Metal Wire under the Materials section of the build menu.
- Hover your aim over the wooden wall to get an option to Build Gate.
- Once your gate is completed, you can add a combination lock to the gate to keep outsiders away from your base.
