Reloading in any game doesn’t require you to put too much thought into it. But when you are playing a survival game, the ability to reload will also see a fair share of difficulty. In DayZ, you must follow specific steps to get your gun loaded before combat. In this guide, we will explore how to reload in DayZ for Xbox, PS5, and PC.
Reloading A Gun In DayZ
Reloading in DayZ starts with having a full magazine, loaded with compatible bullets for that gun. To reload, simply drag the gun into your hand and then drag the loaded magazine to the gun icon. You will get the option to “Combine and Swap.” Drag the magazine into the Combine section of the gun to load the magazine.
Let’s now see how to load bullets into an empty magazine – remember, for you to reload, the magazine has to be full.
Loading Bullets in an Empty Magazine
To fill the magazine with bullets, simply drag an empty magazine in your hands via Inventory. Then, drag the compatible bullets for the gun to the magazine icon on your hands. Once you hover the bullets over the empty magazine icon, you will see two options ‘Combine and Swap‘.
You just have to drag the bullets to the Combine section. Now when you get back to the game, you will see a small prompt window with the option to ‘LMB Icon: Load Magazine [HOLD]‘. Hold down the LMB to load the bullets into the magazine.

How To Quick Reload In DayZ
Set a gun and a magazine to your Hotbar. Let’s assume you have your gun set to number 2 on the Hotbar and the unloaded magazine to number 4.
- Tap 4 to equip your empty magazine. Hold down the R key to load the magazine without opening up your inventory.
- Now that we have a fully loaded magazine in our possession. Press 2 to equip your gun, and hold down the R key to load your magazine into your gun.
Note: R Key on Pc, Triangle on Ps4, and Y on Xbox.
Unloading Bullets From Magazine
- First, go to your inventory and drag the gun to your hands. Right under the gun icon, you will see the magazine equipped for the gun. Now click on the magazine icon under the gun and drag it to the inventory. The gun will have no loaded magazine attached to it.
- You can take the bullets out of the loaded magazine. Drag the loaded magazine we pulled earlier to your hands. Once the magazine is in your hands, exit your inventory. Hold down the LMB (Left button) and you will start to remove all the bullets from your magazine.
- Don’t worry, the bullets will go directly to your inventory instead of placing it on the ground.
