Valor Mortis is a game that doesn’t overload proceedings with boss fights, but every chapter of this unique Soulslike has at least one big baddie to take down. In the case of chapter three, that boss is the Iron Marshall. Before you ask, no relation.
This boss is a big, bulky enemy, and hits like a truck. But, if you use the arena’s hazards to your advantage, and make the most of their weak point, you should come out on top. Here’s how to handle this brute
Boss Location & How To Prepare

This boss is located just after the Orchard Lantern in the third chapter. To prepare, we would suggest the following setup:
- Recommended Level: 15+
- Primary Weapon: Blunderbuss
- Ambers: Volatile End, Bountiful Harvest
- Recommended Ferrofluid Flasks: 4+
- Recommended Items: Pistol Cartridges
Above all, we would recommend having your Blunderbuss ready with as many bullets as possible going into the fight, as this will be your primary damage dealer. However, pistol cartridges also work great to take out barrels in the area and finish off the boss if they still have some health.
Note, you will need to complete the quest ‘The Scarecrow’ to have access to Bountiful Harvest this early in the game.
How To Beat The Iron Marshall

With Volatile End equipped, if you know what you’re doing, you can easily take down this boss first try, as there’s a way to melt their HP bar.
Begin the fight by luring the boss over to the three explosive barrels, using your pistol to detonate the barrels to chip away at their HP. Then, when you’ve done all three, try to draw an attack, dodge and then get behind the boss.

You’ll notice a huge weak spot on their back. If you get up as close as possible to the boss and use your Blunderbuss, this will melt about a quarter of the Iron Marshall’s HP bar thanks to the added effects of Volatile End.
It’s a little tricky to get as close as you would like, but the boss is also bulky and slow. So, be patient and don’t waste shotgun shots, as pistol shots just don’t melt the HP bar quite the same.
This should leave the boss with a slither of HP, and you can either pick them off with your remaining pistol ammo, or you can try and engage them with melee attacks. But, if you do the latter, try to avoid parrying unless you are very confident, as they may be slow, but they hit hard.
Boss Rewards

The player will earn 7,000x Catalysts for defeating the Iron Marshall. Plus, this will open the way forward where the player will gain the grapple ability, allowing you to explore new areas.
