Nintendo announced discontinuing the Nintendo Gold Point program in March of this year. Gold Points were used to get discounts on games from the Nintendo Switch’s eShop. Players will be able to earn the Gold Points until March 25, the points will not disappear or expire until a year after they were redeemed.

    • Gold Points earnings will end in March of 2025.
    • Preorder any game from Nintendo, after March 25, and you will not earn any Gold Points for your purchase.
    • Only games released before 25 March are eligible for Gold Points. Any game released after the cutoff date will not get the point reward system.
    • No news announced for the Platinum Points program.

Preorders for digital games made before March 25 will allow players to earn Gold Points, even if the pre-order game releases after the cutoff date. If the preorder for the game is canceled or payment fails, it will cancel the Gold Points attached to it. Gold points can be earned from any game two years from its original release in Europe, and a single year from other countries.

“We sincerely thank you for using the My Nintendo rewards programme, and apologise for any inconvenience.”

The gold points earned from purchase will last for a year, if the player fails to redeem the points within a year from their earning date, they will lose access to them. If you earn Gold Points on 24th March, the points will have an expiry date for a year before they disappear. The announcement also mentions restricting Nintendo Switch Game Vouchers for Switch 2 exclusive games.

Until March 5, any digital Nintendo Switch Purchase can grant players 5% of the cost of the game in Gold Points. The player can then decide to spend it on smaller or discounted titles. We might learn more about any new program by Nintendo in their next Nintendo Direct.

Nintendo didn’t offer any reason as to why they are canceling the Gold Point program. Rumors are now circulating of the introduction of a new point system exclusive to Switch 2. If you have physical copies of any Nintendo game sitting on your shelf, it’s time to claim the points or you will lose it forever.
