Apart from completing Story missions in Where Winds Meet, the game offers you a variety of side quests to keep you engaged. These side quests are labelled as Encounter quests, where you interact with an NPC and sometimes challenge them in a mini-game. But one Encounter quest, namely Man in the Well Encounter, is pretty tough to find. Don’t worry, as we have prepared a guide for you to easily complete this.
How to Start the Man in the Well Encounter Quest
To begin the quest, head over to the General Shrine as marked in the image above. Do note that you need to wait until the Zi hour (marked by a rat in the in-game clock) to begin this quest. So you can either choose to visit that location at that time in-game, or you can advance the in-game clock to that time.
To change the time, follow the steps given below:
- Open the pause menu (Esc on PC)
- Select the Clock icon on the far right menu between the letter and camera icons.
- Select your desired time according to the scroll menu on the right. In this case, it will be the Zi hour.
At that time, you’ll hear murmurs from within the well. Press F (on PC) to start the dialogue with the man inside the well. This triggers a cutscene, which starts the Man in the Well Encounter quest.
How to Complete the Man in the Well Encounter quest
The man inside the well will give you the task of getting a portion of Braised Pork Belly slices. Head over to the location marked in the image above. It is the location of a market. Find Yuan Xianxian in the market, and she’ll sell the Braised Pork Belly slices to you.
You need to give the man these slices at Zi hour again. Next, he’ll task you to bring an old piece of clothing from Blissful Retreat. Again, you need to give those clothes to the man at Zi hour. But after you complete this, an NPC will appear behind you, catching you talking to the man in the well.
You can either choose to buy his silence with 100 coins or pretend you don’t understand him. If you pick the second option, he’ll attack you, and you have to defeat him in combat. But once you defeat him, you’ll find the man in the well is gone.
Return to the well after two in-game days at the Zi hour (you can fast-forward the time if you want). After a cutscene with the man, you’ll find that the NPC outside the well has returned, too. Change the time to Zi hour again to proceed.
Your next task is to retrieve Wine from Blissful Retreat. But when you walk out after collecting the Wine, a beggar boy will interact with you. He’ll snatch it from your hands and drink it, and pass out. Now you must wait until the beggar boy wakes up. If you don’t interact with the boy when you walk out, you can skip this wait.
After collecting the wine, examine a corpse in Blissful Retreat like the man in the well told you to. Examine it and the surroundings to learn that it is the man in the well itself. Once you examine all the clues, the quest will end.
Upon completing this Encounter quest, you’ll gain the following rewards:
- 25 Echo Jade
- 25 Qinghe Exploration
- 10000 Coins
- 10000 EXP
