When I first stepped into the region of Qinghe in Where Winds Meet, the sheer vastness of this ancient Chinese region fascinated me. A lot of that beauty and detail is on the surface, but there is also a wealth of hidden objectives to uncover as well, and I found myself stuck trying to locate Dark Surge nodes.
It’s one of those classic video game collectibles, where it’s pretty easy to find some, as you’ll likely stumble across a few in conversation with a random NPC. But to find them all, you need to be much more dialed in.
What really challenged me was locating each fragment for each Dark Surge node. This quest seemed to go on forever, and find each and every one was a real slog.
If you are like me and are stuck trying to figure out where all the Dark Surge Node fragments are, you have come to the right place.
I’ve taken some time to figure out and detail all the steps to locate each fragment for each Dark Surge node in Where Winds Meet.
Where Winds Meet – All Dark Surge Locations in Qinghe
As part of the Tales and Echoes collectibles for Qinghe, you are required to unlock Dark Surge nodes for the Unknown Ending.
Since there are 7 Dark Surges to find within Qinghe itself, you will only unlock them by completing some of the prior quests, unlocking encounters, or speaking to related NPCs. Before we dive in, I would like to take a moment to highlight some of the bugs that I have encountered while trying to complete the Dark Surge collectibles.
Bugs:
- Keeping several prior encounters active will not trigger a new encounter to start. Completing them then heading over to the required location will help.
- Make sure that you follow the right time given in the guide to trigger encounters. You get the option to change time and day anytime from the in-game menu.
- Waiting at the Bamboo retreat will reset your encounters, helpful if a particular encounter quest doesn’t trigger.
- In case you are past the point of no return for some of the quests to trigger, it would help to load into another player’s world and continue from there. It is preferred to pick a low-level player, so it is easier to bypass the point of no return.
Now, let’s check out where to find all Dark Surge nodes below.
How to Get the Legend of Hallow Peak Dark Surge Node – All 4 Fragment Locations
Most fragments are locked behind the required Encounters, and you also need to keep in mind that some Encounters are triggered during particular time and day. If you can’t find a certain NPC, quest, or Encounter, teleport away from the location, change the time again, then revisit to trigger them.
Fragment #1 – The Second Miracle
Ensure you have the Harvestfall Village Binding Stone unlocked and complete the “The Path of Heroes” and “Where The Soul Returns” quests. Then, finish all 5 Finesteed Hamlet Wandering Tales quests listed below before progressing.
- Qi Family’s Percepts
- Drinking Poison to Quench Thirst
- Beast Whisperer
- The Horse Purchase
- Why Hasn’t He Returned
During these quests, you will get Li Aili’s letter. After reading the letter, travel to Finesteed Hamlet Binding Stone. Change the in-game time to past noon the next day, around Wu hour. Go to the barn nearby and speak to Li Aili.
After this conversation, proceed to Harvestfall Village’s entrance. There, wait for a random encounter called Night Flash’s Shadow to appear, which usually happens after You hour. You will find a crowd near the entrance, step up to them, and interact with the NPC here to start and finish the random Encounter. The fragment will be given to you upon completion.
Fragment #2 – Buddha’s Light Jade
This one is simple: you need to complete the Bodhi Sea side quest. The nearest waypoint to start this quest is at Sundara Land, and you would have completed the quest if you were on the lookout for the Flaming Meteor Mystic Skill. After completing the quest, head over to the broken islands just west of the Sundara Land waypoint.
Use the Wind Sense ability to look around and find a treasure chest. It is within a ruined structure near some rubble.
Head inside and unlock the chest to get Buddha’s Light Jade. Also, enter the building beside it to find a Buddha statue. Pick up the Ledger Wandering Tales clue to help you with the next fragment below.
Fragment #3 – Rumors of a Third Miracle
Your next stop is at Mercyheart Town. Change the time to evening Hai hour, then look around for an NPC named Yang Yixian.
You will find him within a field of blue flowers. Complete your conversation with him and hand over the ledger you picked up earlier to collect the third Fragment.
Fragment #4 – The Wandering Monk
This fragment is obtained after completing the Where A Thousand Buddhas Wept side quest. Completing it will reward you with the final fragment.
How to Get the Moonveil Mountain Dark Surge Node – All 5 Fragment Locations
For the second set of Dark Surge nodes, you need to locate 5 fragments around Heaven’s Pier, Harvestfall Village, and Peace Bell Tower. There are certain NPCs to talk to here as well, as well as new quests and encounters to unlock and complete for the fragments.
Fragment #1 – Theft at Heaven’s Pier
You need to seek out an NPC called Zhange at Heaven’s Pier. If you can’t find him, it helps if Blissful Retreat hasn’t been burnt yet.
If you are past this point, server hop until you find a world where the player hasn’t reached this point yet and find Zhange. Completing the conversation with him will unlock the first fragment.
Fragment #2 – Palace of Annal’s Stance
Head over to Harvestfall Village and speak to the Bell Ringer. You will find him atop the bell tower in the village. Complete your conversation with him to get the second fragment.
Fragment #3 – Great Hero
You need to make your way back to Heaven’s Pier to find Yimo. You will find him near the harvesting and collection area of the village. Speak to him to get the Great Hero fragment.
Fragment #4 – The Shattered Bell
Visit Peace Bell Tower and speak to Liu the Woodcutter after chopping down the tree beside him. This will unlock the Shattered Bell Fragment.
Fragment #5 – Clash Between the Water Lady
First, purchase and eat 10 unique Qinghe dishes. You can purchase various dishes by talking to the vendors at Heaven’s Pier, Finesteed Hamlet, Mercyheart Town, and Harvestfall Village.
You need to build your reputation until you reach Revered Affection with them to collect Home Cooked and Signature dishes. Consume these dishes to trigger the Recipe’s Heir random encounter.
If the encounter doesn’t trigger, then consume as many different Qinghe-specific dishes as possible. You cannot consume two of the same dishes, the encounter won’t trigger this way. Once triggered, complete the encounter to get the fragment.
How to Get Breeze Post Incident Dark Surge Node – All 3 Fragment Locations
Since there are just three fragments to collect here, you won’t have a hard time trying to find them all. Just be a bit mindful of the encounter trigger time, so you get to complete the required encounters and get the fragments.
Fragment #1 – Location of Breeze Post
You need to complete the Blind to the World side quest at Crimson Cliff to get the fragment.
Fragment #2 – The Legendary Assassin
Complete the Man in the Well random encounter to get the second fragment.
Fragment #3 – Khitan and Tag Sever Ties
Make your way to the Palace of Annals and explore the underground section to find the fragment.
How to Get the Invasion of the Aureate Pavilion Dark Surge Node – All 3 Fragment Locations
This is another easy Dark Surge node section, as you just need to find another 3 fragments. These are easily unlocked via quests or finding the right NPCs again. Be sure to exhaust all dialog options while speaking to the NPCs, or else you won’t get the fragment to trigger.
Fragment #1 – Miaoshan’s Identity
You will get the fragment after liberating the Mercyheart Monastery Outpost in Sundara Land. You would have been here to collect the Thunderous Bloom Inner Way.
Fragment #2 – In Search of Tian Yin
Seek out Meng Da and speak to him several times till you exhaust all dialog options. You will find him near the shoreline of Still Shore.
Fragment #3 – The Sleeping Puppet Calamity
Near Moonveil Stream waypoint in Kilnfire Ridge, head into the Cocoon cave and upstairs to the main shrine area. Interact with the shrine to find the fragment.
How to Get the Hanging Blade Dark Surge Node – All 3 Fragment Locations
Another set of 3 fragments to find here, but like earlier, this set is easy to find too. Just keep an eye out on the map location and head over to the exact area to find the fragments.
Fragment #1 – The Name of Chunqui
Head back to the boss arena at the Palace of Annals and examine the large tombstone-like structure at the edge of the arena. If you can’t find it, use Wind Sense while in the area. Investigating the stone will give you the first fragment.
Fragment #2 – No Place for Bandits
In Twinbeast Ridge, liberate Tiger Fort, then use Wind Sense to find a chest deep in the storage area. Unlock it to find the second fragment.
Fragment #3 – The Hanging Blade
Speak to the Elder Bell Ringer at Peace Bell Tower to get the last fragment.
How to Get the Gleaming Abyss Dark Surge Node – All 3 Fragment Locations
We are almost coming to the end of locating the fragments for all Dark Surge Nodes, so just a few more to go. For this one, you will mostly need to interact with a few spirits to get the fragments.
While speaking to them, keep an eye on their name, as particular spirits will hand over the fragments.
Fragment #1 – This Body Shall Forever Guard the Deep Abyss
While completing the Mysterious Colossus quest, you will be taken to the boss arena to fight the Void King. Defeat the boss to get the first fragment.
Fragment #2 – Feelings Laid to Rest in a Firefly Grave
Enter the fog after defeating the Void King, then travel to the end of the cave. Speak to the spirit of Li Zuo near the blue tree to get this fragment.
Fragment #3 – This Heat Shall Eternally Regret Immortality
Venture out to Gleaming Abyss and enter the coffin in the lower level to get to the floor below. While exploring the cave, find a spirit named Liu Qingyi.
They will be standing beside the spirit of a deer, somewhere on the upper floors. You will get this fragment after talking to her.
How to Get the Tian Ying Dark Surge Node – All 4 Fragment Locations
And finally, you got the list of final fragments to find for the last Dark Surge Node. These require a few questlines to be done, and you will finally complete your collection.
Fragment #1 – Master Wei
Visit the Palace of Annals and head up to the second floor. Once you reach the study area, jump down the hole in the floor and try to land just one floor below instead of going down all the way. Investigate the books on your right to find the fragment.
Fragment #2 & #3 – A Man Who Never Existed / The First Aspiration
While completing the Silent Assassin side quest at Sundara Land, you will receive the First Aspiration randomly during the quest.
Completing the quest and speaking to the dying Long Wu will reward you with an A Man Who Never Existed fragment.
Fragment #4 – The Turmoil in Inkbound Order
You will get this fragment while completing the Cries in the Distance side quest.
