In Dune Awakening, you can die to enemies, storms, sandworms, and other players, and each of these has a different impact on the equipment and loot that you had at the time of dying. In this guide, we have put up all the details for what happens when you die in Dune Awakening to either of these situations.
Dune Awakening: What Happens When You Die To Thirst & Sandstorms?

You will respawn either at your base, or a Respawn Beacon with all your gear, armor, Skills, XP intact. What you will not have, is everything that gets stored in a backpack: so no currency, tools and ammo. These will be lying at the point where you died, which is shown by a skull icon on the map. Now, if you manage to reach that location before dying again, you can retrieve everything and no damage done; however if you die before that happens, you lose the backpack contents permanently.
What we recommend is:
- Take your time during the travel back to the location where you died, don’t worry about other players taking your stuff: in PVE, that cannot happen.
- Place a Respawn Beacon nearby before venturing to new areas.
Dune Awakening: What Happens When You Die To Enemies?
Dune Awakening treats death by enemies in a PVE scenario as a ‘Normal death’. Here, the game gives you a chance to revive yourself. Once you get downed, you will see a heart icon with a gold bar next to it, a blue one below it, and an action prompt to Self-revive, or Surrender to the desert.
When you see this, press F on PC, Square on PlayStation and X on Xbox to revive. If you are able to fill up the blue bar before the gold bar runs out, you get a second wind with a sliver of health. You can also be revived by other players in such a scenario.
If, however, you are not able to do this, you will respawn at either your base or at a Respawn Beacon, like in the case above, and you then have to make a run to get your backpack and its contents.
Dune Awakening: What Happens When You Die To Sandworms?

If you die to Sandworms in Dune Awakening, you lose everything without a chance to retrieve it. Even your equipped gear, and the Sandbike that you may have been driving will get destroyed permanently. This is easily the most fatal of consequences in the game, and hence to be avoided at all costs.
Dune Awakening: What Happens When You Die In PVP?
If you die in PVP, the killer gets all the loot, currency, and ammo that you were carrying in your backpack. Your equipped items stay with you when you respawn. There are 2 events in PVP that you need to watch out for:
Coriolis Storms: These storms destroy everything in their path, and like in the case of Sandworms, you lose everything, permanently.
Landsraad Decree: If you die in PVP with this decree announced and active, you also lose all your equipped items. These decrees get announced, and may last for a week, so keep an eye out when visiting PVP areas if this is active.
Thankfully, most PVP areas are late-game areas like the Deep Desert, so the main things to look out for in your early and mid game are enemies, the environment, and Sandworms. With this in mind, exploration does play a key part in getting and completing quests like the Footsteps of the Fremen.
