Some of the quest objectives are locked behind puzzles, and if you are looking for a way to save the hostages, then you need to solve an intricate puzzle in Outer Worlds 2. Since there are no indicators on how to go about it, you would be stumped to find an answer. This guide will explain how to solve the hostage puzzle in The Outer Worlds 2.
How to Save the Hostages in The Outer Worlds 2
During the On the Trail of the Traitor main story quest, you get an optional objective to save the hostages. There is an orb puzzle to solve here, which is accessible after obtaining the key to the Research Wing from the cellar. Then, make your way upstairs to find the puzzle, all the while defeating enemies along the way. You will also spot a few arrows drawn on the walls to indicate where the puzzle is.
The first encounter with the puzzle will be in the form of an orb on a railing. There will be a plate on the floor right in front of it, and stepping on it will move the block that’s stopping the orb from moving down. Follow the arrows and step on the first platform to remove the first block. After the orb has moved, step on the platforms to the left to keep it rolling.
Then, jump down the hole nearby and enter the courtyard. Look up to where the orb has stopped rolling and shoot down the barricades blocking the way. After the orb has stopped moving for the third time, head over to the console nearby and release the platform for the orb to pass through.
Soon, it will drop down into a crevice. Step on the platform nearby to raise the platform up, letting the orb continue onwards. Repeat the same step to the platform next to you, after which the orb will drop down into the hole. This will activate the keypunch mechanical safe, helping you collect the following rewards.

Exit the puzzle room and use the Activation Keycard on the console to release the hostages, completing this optional objective.
