During the “On the Trail of the Traitor” main quest in The Outer Worlds 2, you’ll be tasked with finding Victor Clemens in the N-Ray Range. Early on in your journey through the N-Ray Range, you’ll face a mandatory puzzle that needs solving before you can progress through the quest. Here’s how you can easily solve the switch puzzle during “On the Trail of the Traitor” quest in The Outer Worlds 2.

To solve the switch puzzle in ‘On the Trail of the Traitor’ in The Outer Worlds 2, you need to obtain the N-Ray Scanner, and then pull the switches in the following order:

    • Second Row: First Switch
    • First Row: Second Switch
    • Second Row: Fourth Switch

How to get the N-Ray Scanner

First, enter the N-Ray Range via a hatch that’s located inside the building to the right of the main entrance. The front door will be sealed, so you need to access the N-Ray Range from the smaller building to the right. Head inside and you’ll find a hatch on the ground, which will transition you to inside the N-Ray Range.

Drop down the hatch, exit through the door on the left, then take another left to find the entrance to the room where a vent is located at the end, beside the purple lights.

Use the vents to crawl into the room where the puzzle is located. An Electrical System Notice is attached above the switches, which states that not more than three switches can be activated at once; otherwise, it will cause a system reset.

There are a total of eight switches, so you need to figure out which three to activate. Next, exit the room and head right from the purple lights to find another room, where Exemplar Foxworth is located. Although interacting with Foxworth is optional, it is recommended since it will start the “Discrete Mathematics” quest in The Outer Worlds 2. Once you’ve done that, enter the vent located opposite to Exemplar Foxworth, to the left of the room.

Inside the vent, you’ll face some purple electricity that follows a clockwise rotation. Analyze the electricity’s movement pattern carefully, avoid it and move forward to the end of the vent. Once you drop down from the vent, turn left to notice a half-open shutter/door. Go through this door, then turn right and head straight.

Follow the path ahead, and you’ll eventually come across another room. Inside this room, you’ll obtain the N-Ray Scanner, which is required to solve the switch puzzle. It is also used to see through walls, check for enemies and to see wiring. Now, all you need to do is head back.

Head Back to the Switch Puzzle and Solve It

With the N-Ray Scanner, you can see the wiring that connects the three switches required to solve the puzzle in The Outer Worlds 2. Head back to the switch puzzle, and equip the N-Ray Scanner. You’ll see that there are multiple wires; however, there’s one wire that connects three switches. You need to pull the three switches that are connected to this wiring.

Solving this puzzle gets you closer to finding Victor Clemens and finishing the “On the Trail of the Traitor” quest. Also, keep an eye out while doing this part of the story for unlocking Aza Leitinger’s companion quest in Outer Worlds 2.
