A Sandspear is a rare fish you can come across in Sunautica 2 that you’ll want to bioscan to complete your database of fauna. The more bioforms you scan, the more blueprints you’ll unlock. So this means that you should aim to scan rare fish when you get an opportunity, and at times, you’ll need to hunt them down to unlock more crafting options. Scanning the Sandspear doesn’t unlock any specific reward, but it helps you fill your entries, which is of great benefit.
The Sandspear is an elongated, tube-like fish which is purply-blue in color and has dark spikes jutting out of its stomach, as well as sharp teeth – which it’s not afraid of using on unwary divers. The fish are hostile if provoked, but will keep themselves to themselves when left alone. They won’t actively hunt and attack you unless aggravated.
Where to find Sandspear fish in Subnautica 2

While Sandspear fish can be found all over the map in Subnautica 2, the easiest one to find is the one in the Anenome Hills.
This is located roughly 300 metres north-northeast of the Life Pod. You may need to dive down through some reef to find it, but the creature will always be there. If killed, it may need some time to respawn, but this is the easiest location to track and bioscan a Sandspear fish in Subnautica 2.
Of course, there’s every chance that you’ve already seen one by the time you set out to scan it, and you may not have found this one first, as the main quest doesn’t take you to this specific spot. However, this one is the closest to the start of the game, and therefore, the easiest to track down.
How to bioscan a Sandspear
Bioscanning a Sandspear can be problematic due to their aggression; however, we found we could get in close to scan them without them attacking us. This is often the luck of the draw, but you can manual save, then move in for the scan, reloading if they decide to rip you a new one.
Sure, you can blast one if you prefer, but it’s a risky business if you’re trying to keep a low profile and save on resources. But the choice is yours. We found the fish to be a difficult fight, especially if you’re still building up your character, but you should be able to sneak up on the angry fish, scan it, and get out of there before getting chomped by its big teeth.
Bioscanning any dangerous fauna can be tricky in Subnautica 2, so it pays to practice the art of swimming in close, scanning, then getting out of dodge before the creature’s aggro is set off and there’s a fight on your hands. Remember, this is a survival game, and being overly cavalier will only result in a watery grave. Well, until you’re cloned again.
