Starsand Island lets players take on whatever lifestyle they prefer and hone their professions, from crafting tools, to ranching and raising animals. If you’re looking to prioritize ranching, then you’ll need to know how to get yourself set up. Luckily, this guide covers everything you’ll need in order to set up your first animal pen and learn the Starsand Island ranching system. How to Set Up Your First Animal Pen & Start Ranching in Starsand Island
Once you begin your Starsand Island playthrough, you will be greeted by Solara, who will run you through a basic gameplay tutorial. During this tutorial, she will let you choose your first Profession – one of which is Ranching. Go ahead and select Ranching from the list of options, so you can go ahead and get set up as soon as possible.
You will now be instructed to go and find another character named Pastelle to learn the Starsand Island Ranching basics. She can be found a short wander over the hill at Green Pasture Ranch. If you get stuck, follow the sparkling trail, as this will lead you in the right direction.
Speak to Pastelle, and she will give you a rundown of how things work, now tasking you with collecting everything you’ll need to build your very first animal pen (a Rabbit Hutch) to house your very own pet rabbits.
Pastelle will refer you to the General Store and provide you with some Common Mount Rental Cards. This enables you to rent the animals at her ranch and use them as mounts for travel. Go ahead and pick any eligible animal mount of your choice, and then head off in the direction of the General Store. It will be marked on your map, and there should continue to be a trail leading to these objectives.
Once you’ve reached the General Store, step inside and purchase the blueprint. Now, head over to the Ranch Shop to purchase some rabbits and rabbit feed.
Return to your home – now that you have the blueprint and the animals, it’s time to build them a home! All facilities required to make these items will have already been unlocked during your initial tutorial gameplay.
How to Build the Rabbit Hutch
To make a Rabbit Hutch, you will need to collect the following materials:
- 15x Softwood
- 5x Fiber
Softwood can be collected by chopping down nearby trees, while Fiber can be acquired by destroying nearby foliage such as bushes or patches of grass. Some Mounts can even make this much easier by jumping around the area – give it a try!
Once your Rabbit Hutch has been built, you will need to place it around your property. By placing it somewhere near fields, your rabbits will eat weeds, which will help you save some costs on feeding them.
How Animal Pens Work
To place animals inside a pen, open the pen and press the Manage button. Now you will be able to place eligible animals inside of your pen. In this case, you can place all four new rabbits. Next, you will need to add your feed to the pen so that the rabbits stay nice and healthy.
To do this, press the Set Feed button on the left, and then select which type of feed you’d like to add. For now, you’ll only have regular Rabbit Feed available, so go ahead and add all bags of that to the pen to keep your little guys going for a couple of days.
How Do Animals Age in Starsand Island
In Starsand Island, animals take a different number of in-game days to reach adulthood. For rabbits, this timeframe is two days. Once a Rabbit reaches adulthood, you can begin to breed them for specific purposes, as each animal is assigned one or more traits, or genes that determine their behaviors or give passive buffs/debuffs. This way, you can target certain genes that will come in handy for maintaining your property.
How to Reach Apprentice Rancher in Starsand Island
Once you have your rabbits set up, you’ll only need to do a couple more tasks before you reach Apprentice Rancher. First, you need to go and talk to Lunelle, the local clothing designer. She’ll need some wool to help finish a boutique design. You can source this wool from the animal pens at Pastelle’s ranch if you have yet to pick any up along the way.
Once you have the wool, simply return to Lunelle, and she will make you a brand-new outfit in return. Lastly, you’ll now be able to reach Apprentice Rancher and work towards unlocking more facilities and pens to raise even more animals.
How to Adopt Stray Animals in Starsand Island
In Starsand Island, there are also a series of stray animals that you can encounter around town. Well, if you’re wondering if you can also adopt and raise these little critters, the answer is yes!
To adopt a stray animal in Starsand Island, you will need to spend time with that animal on a regular basis by providing it with food or interacting with it – which usually results in a moment of very cute petting. Once you reach a friendship level of 3 hearts with the animal, you will be able to adopt them as your own.
This means that players will need to put a bit of effort and dedication into taking their favorite strays from around the town home. However, it’s all completely worth it! Just look at how cute this little guy is…How could you not want to dedicate yourself to the little fuzzball?
