Starsand Island – How to Get More Bag Space

You’ll quickly realize that you don’t have enough bag space in Starsand Island, and what you start out with will be filled in no time. This isn’t exactly surprising when you only have 30 slots in your bag at the beginning, and there are dozens of different items that you’ll be gathering and crafting.

Luckily, you can upgrade your bag for more slots. The unfortunate part is that you don’t get more than a handful of additional slots with each upgrade, and the materials you need grow increasingly difficult to get. Still, the extra space is definitely needed, and that makes it worth the effort. Especially if you’re like me and sick of seeing items sitting on the ground because you don’t have room to pick them up.

When you open your Bag, you’ll find an option in the bottom left that says “Upgrade.” When you select that, it shows you how much more bag space that upgrade gives you, as well as the materials needed to perform the upgrade.

While the first upgrade only uses basic resources, the following upgrades use more difficult materials, and these are usually ones that you need to craft rather than just raw materials. Here are the required costs for each upgrade in order:

    1. 5x Softwood, 5x Stone, 5x Fiber (35 Slots)
    2. 5x Carbon Line, 5x Stone Brick, 5x Softwood Plank (40 Slots)
    3. 5x Radiant Core, 5x Copper Ingot, 5x Glass Pane (45 Slots)
    4. 6x Bronze, 16x Flour, 6x Flannel, 6x Carbon Line (50 Slots)
    5. 7x Hardwood Plank, 7x Iron Sheet, 10x Vegetable Juice, 5x Egg, 10x Protein Powder, 10x Fruit Pulp (55 Slots)
    6. 6x Premium Wood Plank, 5x Alloy, 10x Sugar, 3x Sheep Milk, 10x Fish Fillet (60 Slots)
    7. 3x Meteor Plank, 3x Eternal Alloy, 20x Honey, 15x Rice (65 Slots)
    8. 4x Meteor Plank, 4x Eternal Alloy, 1x Rainbow Fabric, 5x Stardew Fern, 1x Perpetual Reactor

Starsand Island – How Bag Upgrades Work

You can upgrade your bag space a total of eight times right now. Each upgrade gives you an extra 5 slots. This still doesn’t feel like enough, but the game is in Early Access, so it’s possible that more upgrades could be available in a future patch. For now, you can get up to 40 extra slots. However, this is easier said than done, as you’ll have to get more labor intensive materials for each upgrade, and that makes it a slow process.

What’s nice is that your bag space doesn’t include the two rows that make up the items you’re holding. This would be the 20 slots at the top of your bag, where you’ll likely have tools, such as your pickax and weapons like the slingshot. To be fair, that’s a decent amount of bag space in Starsand Island, and you’ll hopefully no longer leave items behind.
