The Tides of Terraria update brings a brand new fishing feature, where you can get yourself a fishing rod and claim new Pals from the waters. Once you know the basics of fishing, you might want to know how to identify your new fish Pal’s passives. Each fish type does come with different passives, and this guide will run you through how to know their passive abilities in Palworld.
Identifying Passives of Fished Pals in Palworld

You can identify the passives of pals that you are fishing by looking at their distinct markers that are clearly identifiable on the water surface. There are 4 different types of markings to look out for, and each of them offers a different type of passive.
- A Pal that showcases a slightly dark hue while in the water will have random common passives, and is one of the more common Pals that you would fish out.
- Pals that have a glowing outline with purple sparks are known to be Alpha Pals, but have no special passive skills assigned to them.
- If they have an outline and green specks floating around them, then they are identified as normal Water Pals having Rainbow Passives.
- If you find a water Pal with an iridescent sheen, then they are most likely Alpha Pals with Rainbow Passives. There is a high chance this Pal type will have Lunker as their passive skill, but they might also have other extraordinary passives in place of that.
You can go around the various water bodies in the game to find more exquisite Pals to fish out.
Palworld: Tides of Terraria is the latest DLC for the game, and comes after the Feybreak update that released back in January. This one, as its easy to imagine, focuses a lot on fishing.
