In The Outer Worlds 2, each companion has their own unique story and mission that lets you learn more about them, and sometimes, change their abilities. One of these quests belongs to Inez, who needs help repairing the mechanical graft on her arm.
Completing her personal mission, Better Than Nature, lets you decide between two powerful upgrades: the Crabble Claw or the Raptidon Fin. The choice permanently affects Inez’s role in your party and how she performs in combat.
Better Than Nature Quest in Outer Worlds 2

The Better Than Nature quest begins when Inez asks for help fixing her arm graft. To do this, you’ll need to visit Ethel and take down one of two dangerous creatures: the Skeleton Crabble or the Raptidon Matriarch.
Each monster drops a part that can be used for Inez’s new graft, but you’ll only be able to choose one once the job is done. The decision is final and cannot be changed later, so it’s worth understanding what each option offers before making the choice.
Crabble Claw – For Offensive Power

If you graft the Crabble Claw, Inez gets the ability to fire a volley of plasma shots at enemies, which wears down enemy armor faster and causes burn damage over time.
The Crabble Claw is ideal if you want Inez to act aggressively and deal consistent ranged damage. Upgrades to this graft make her attacks even more powerful by leaving behind pools of plasma that continue to damage enemies who walk through them.
However, while the Crabble Claw sounds powerful, its burn effect and plasma damage aren’t exceptionally strong, even at higher levels. Players who don’t invest in Leadership or companion ability perks might find that the extra damage doesn’t make a major difference in tougher fights.
Raptidon Fin – For Support and Healing
The Raptidon Fin lets her use a variation of the Magic Bullet that cloaks her, allowing her to retreat and heal the party with a canister of healing mist. The healing effect helps keep everyone alive during longer battles, especially when your inhaler charges are running low.
Choosing the Raptidon Fin turns Inez into more of a support companion. While the invisibility doesn’t have much impact outside combat, since enemies rarely notice companions during stealth, it does give Inez a chance to escape danger and avoid being knocked out in the middle of a fight. This keeps her active longer, reducing the need to revive her constantly.
The Raptidon Fin is particularly useful since only one other companion, V.A.L.E.R.I.E., can heal you. Having Inez as an alternate healer gives you more flexibility when choosing your party. As you unlock upgrades through her skill tree, the Raptidon Fin’s healing mist becomes stronger and covers a wider area.
Which Graft Should You Choose for Inez in The Outer Worlds 2?

While both options have their strengths, the Raptidon Fin generally stands out as the better overall choice. The Crabble Claw gives Inez extra firepower, but the plasma damage is fairly underwhelming and doesn’t scale as well later in the game.
Most weapons you’ll find can already handle armor reduction more efficiently, making the offensive boost less valuable over time. Plus, the Crabble Claw’s plasma attacks often struggle to keep up with higher-level enemies, causing its damage output to fall off in later stages.
The Raptidon Fin, on the other hand, gives Inez a healing ability that no other companion (aside from VAL) can consistently provide. Healing during combat is a huge advantage, especially when resources are limited or during longer fights.
It also keeps Inez alive longer thanks to the brief invisibility. Even if you prefer a more aggressive playstyle, having a companion who can heal the team adds a lot more utility and safety to your runs.
If you want Inez to hit harder, the Crabble Claw can still be fun to use. But if you want a reliable companion who can actually save you in a tough fight, the Raptidon Fin is the smarter pick. It makes Inez more than just another fighter, it turns her into a dependable ally you’ll be glad to have by your side in The Outer Worlds 2.
How Inez’s Graft Works in The Outer Worlds 2
When you choose a graft for Inez, it unlocks her skill tree and allows her to gain new combat abilities as she levels up. Without this graft, she only uses her basic rifle attacks in fights. This upgrade essentially gives her a signature skill, a variant of the Magic Bullet ability, that changes based on the graft you pick.
You’ll also be able to select new perks every few levels to enhance her role further. Like all other Companions in Outer Worlds 2, Inez’s effectiveness in battle depends on how you develop her skills and abilities, so completing her graft quest early can make her far more useful later on.
Completing this quest early is a good idea, especially if you plan to bring Inez along on future missions. The graft not only strengthens her, but also gives her a defined purpose in your team, whether that’s offense or support.
