Most of the NPCs in Oblivion Remastered require your help in some way or another. Some of the quest objectives can seem a bit bizarre, so you have to find ways to overcome them and complete the quest. During Stendarr’s Mercy, you need to help cure a curse that has befallen Kellen, and you are the only one who is capable enough to do so. This guide will detail how to lift the curse from Kellen in Oblivion Remastered.
How To Cure Kellen in Oblivion Remastered

You cure Kellen’s curse by using the Lay Hands spell on him, and you obtain this spell by praying at the Altar of the Nine within the Chapel of Stendarr. Kellen’s curse is something generational and has been passed down since the time of Sir Casimir’s ownership of the Gauntlets of the Crusader. Ever since Casimir received the curse, he has been growing weaker, while the Gauntlets that fell to the Chapel of Stendarr’s floor grew heavier. You need to find a way to break the curse so you can retrieve the gauntlets. Head over to the chapel and speak to a priest there called Areldur. Ask him about the gauntlet to know more about its lore.

Also, Kellen has taken refuge here too, so head over to the bedroom downstairs in the chapel’s hall to speak to him. He will suspect that Areldur isn’t entirely honest about the whole thing, so head back to the priest and persuade him to spill the information. He will tell you that the only way to break Kellen’s curse is to take the curse upon oneself. The priest isn’t too keen to do that, so make your way to the Altar of the Nine within the chapel’s hall and pray. In return, you will get the Lay Hands spell, which you can use on Kellen to cure him.
This will lift the curse off Kellen, but you will be inflicted with the Curse of the Consumed instead. This curse will eat up your Fatigue by 5 points. The only way to break the curse is to get the Blessing of Talos, which happens in a later questline of the Knights. You can also retrieve the Gauntlets of the Crusader for yourself, which offer the Merciful Touch spell. This can help restore 50 HP at the cost of 25 Magicka.
