After gallivanting through the various areas of MIO: Memories in Orbit, you’ll come to notice various places you can’t quite reach. These places aren’t there to just troll you (though they really can seem that way at times), but are just awaiting you to find Samsk so they’ll grant you the necessary ability.
Even if you haven’t really needed it, Samsk can grant you an interesting dodge ability. It’s truly wonderful, and I honestly can’t imagine what the rest of the game would have looked like if you didn’t unlock it as early as you do. Boss fights start becoming a whole new, tamable beast once you can dodge.
Where to Find the Dodge Ability in MIO

The dodge ability is given to you by Samsk after finding the Aviaries Passepartout and unlocking the locked door the very right of where the Noden, the Spine is located. If you look at the map above, starting from the Overseer located at the Nexus.
Here, go up and follow the pathway left until you reach the elevator directly to the left of where Mel can be found. Once inside, select Level 2: The Spine and wait until the elevator reaches its destination. After it does, walk all the way to the right, past Noden, the Spine, and past Estragon the Librarian.
Assuming you already have the Aviaries Passepartout, you’ll be able to unlock this locked door and enter. After you’ve arrived, you’ll immediately find a hole that you can interact with. Once you do, Samsk will come out, tell you a short tale, and drag you down into the depths with them to teach you a new ability: dodge.
There will be a short tutorial that walks you through exactly how to use the dodge, giving you a bit of a hint of exactly where you might want to use this ability next.
How to Use the Dodge Ability
To dodge, the controls are:
- PC – R key
- Controller – B button/Triangle Button
The dodge ability in MIO: Memories in Orbit is very different from that in most other games I’ve played. Instead of dodging and moving in a particular direction or simply getting out of the way, you disappear for a split second.
However, you need to be accurate in when you dodge. Fortunately, it is similar to a parry, and must be executed at the same time that you’re being hit. Then, you’ll essentially glide through whatever hit you, dodging it altogether.
It’s honestly perfect for MIO’s gameplay style, and makes future abilities even more comprehensive and useful than ever before.
Dodge Best Practices

I sort of like this dodge better than what most other games have, as it doesn’t force you to move from the spot you’re currently at. So, as long as you’re able to perfectly pinpoint when to use it, it makes battles like that against Calderon since you can just dodge directly through its arms.
The dodge is also a massive lifesaver when you have to go up against Nabuu. So, it’s in your best interest to practice using it as often as you possibly can.
It’s also a great tool for getting the hang of when you get the grab jump ability. You are able to essentially get an additional jump if you wime your dodge correctly. So, as an example, you can jump up and attack an enemy, dodge its attack while still in the air, and be given an additional opportunity to jump, all while never touching the floor.
