MIO: Memories In Orbit will seem pretty easy up to a certain point, and that point is Nabuu. They’ll be the first real challenge you’ll come up against that will require a bit of mastery over the mechanics in the game.
By this point, you should’ve found the Glide ability; you won’t be able to reach Nabuu otherwise. Even with some of the upgrades you can find around the map, this will be a longer fight.
Make sure you come prepared with whatever modifiers you prefer, although that’s probably still pretty limited at this point. This guide will cover where to find Nabuu, how to beat them, and what you’ll get.

Where to Find Nabuu?

You’ll find Nabuu once you reach the Promenade spawn point. From there, all you have to do is head past the elevator, and you should hit a small lake of Gloomwater.
All you’ve got to do from there is get past the little platforming puzzle by using the Glide ability along with the one you get from defeating Crow, Automated Reaper.
Try not to take too much damage here since every time you die to Nabuu, you’ll have to do it again.
How to Beat Nabuu, Keeper of the Breath

Nabuu is what keeps you from acquiring your first Voice from the Breath. They’re a deer-like robot that uses its horn tendrils for attacks along with its metallic hooves.
You probably won’t be able to beat Nabuu the first go-round, but if you pay close attention, you’ll have a pretty good idea of what to expect. Since you don’t take damage on contact with the boss like in Silksong, you can stay relatively close and hit Nabuu continuously.
Phase One

This phase will introduce you to most of Nabuu’s attacks. They’re mostly exactly what you expect: a few kicks and some dashes, but they do have some interesting attacks mixed in.
Try to memorize as many of them as you can, but if you just keep yourself in the air behind them, you’ll be able to avoid a vast majority of the attacks.

| Attack | Description |
|---|---|
| Horn Charge | Nabuu curls its horns into a ram style and dips its head before charging across the stage. |
| Hoove Kick | Nabuu kicks back with their heels toward you. |
| Tendril Strike | Nabuu pulls their tendrils back and attacks the area around them. |
| Gloomwater Rain | Nabuu stomps on the ground, summoning slowly falling projectiles. |
Once you get Nabuu about halfway down, they’ll run off and begin the next phase. This one will be a little different, but they can still use all the same attacks from the first phase.
Phase Two

For this phase, you’ll be spending a good chunk of time in the air. While you can use the purple flowers to stay afloat, you can also use the falling gloomwater to reset the cooldown of your Glide.
Once the gloomwater goes away, you’ll be back on the ground, and Nabuu will have a few more attacks. You’ll only find the new attacks listed in the table below, but they can use attacks from phase one.

| Attack | Description |
|---|---|
| Drown in Gloomwater | Nabuu jumps into the background and floods the ground with gloomwater. Small projectiles begin to fall from the ceiling for the next few seconds. |
| Tendril Towers | Nabuu will jump from the background to the stage and shove their tendrils into the ground. After a moment, several tendrils shoot up from the ground. |
| Crossway Tendrils | Nabuu moves to the center of the stage and twists its tendrils together, then jams them into the ground. Three pairs of tendrils appear at the sides of the screen and then connect in the middle, doing damage. |
| Tracking Tendrils | Nabuu stands on one side of the stage and twists its tendrils, then jams them into the ground. Tendrils rise from the ground one after the other, following you. |
Rewards for Beating Nabuu

After defeating Nabuu, you won’t get any new abilities or anything of the sort, but you will get access to The Breath’s Spring. This is where you’ll absorb the Voice of the Breath and take your first real step into saving the Vessel.
There’s still so much to do on the Vessel, so don’t think you can stop there. With so much more to explore and do, you’ve only barely scratched the surface of the game.
