MIO: Memories In Orbit: How To Beat Egis

For those not quite attuned to the newest 2026 releases just yet, Mio is one worth taking notice of. It’s a superb little Metroidvania with a unique art style and satisfying movement, but in the beginning it feels about as obtuse as any game in the genre I’ve ever played.

It all starts to click by the time you reach the first boss, Egis. But you’ll need to find them and be able to beat them to progress. So, to help you do just that, here is a guide on how to knock Egis on their ass.

To get to your first boss, you’ll want to ride the elevator up to ‘Apartments L2’ and then start working your way down.

You’ll want to work your way along the slippery icy path, and you’ll eventually make your way to the area marked on the map above.

You can also open up a shortcut, which allows you to access Egis a lot quicker by breaking a stone wall just above their boss room. This will take you through to the Nacre Pool at the start of the Dwellings’ slippery path.

    How To Prepare

At this point in the game, you don’t have a lot of options in terms of preparation. But, there are a few things you can do to make this fight a little easier.

I would suggest locating and equipping the Protective Overlay Mod, as this will grant you an extra hit point at the cost of 20 points in your allocation matrix.

Then with your additional 5 points, as you won’t be able to upgrade just yet, equip Analyser, as you’ll be able to see the enemies health bar and plan accordingly in battle.

    How To Beat Egis

    Mio Eris Fight 1

As with most Metroidvania bosses, it’s all about learning how this dance works with each boss. Egis is relatively straightforward, but because Mio is so flimsy, there isn’t much room for error.

Egis’ moveset consists of a triple slash, a stab attack, a jumping stab attack, a charging attack, and a slam attack. All pretty routine stuff, but they move fast, so you need to take a moment to analyse them and work out each tell for the attacks listed.

The best way to whittle down their health is to get over their head and behind them to attack with a three time combo. Then, get some distance and let them perform their next attack so you can react.

The only real difficulty comes from the moment that Egis disappears, teleports, and then performs an overhead slam or sideways charge. Just stay alert when they pop off-screen and be on the move to avoid a potential slam.

This is how the battle plays out for the most part, but there is a final phase where Egis will absorb the three capsules on their back, leading to a flurry of slam and charge attacks without any break.

The key here is to go on the defensive and avoid all these attacks back to back. Then, when they cool down to use their canisters again, get as many attacks in as possible. Do all this, and the win should be secure.

    Rewards For Beating Egis

The reward for beating Egis lies below the boss room. You’ll unlock a new ability called the Hairpin.

A skill that allows you to use your long tendrils to grapple hook using the various green crystals you’ll have seen floating around while exploring. This will allow you to access new areas in Dwellings and gain access to your next boss battle.
