Mods let you pick which aspects of Mio you want to enhance in MIO: Memories In Orbit. While you don’t have a big selection during the early sections of the game, there are still mods you’ll run into that can be useful.
I prefer mods that give me survivability, but there are also some great mods that you can use to increase your damage early.
1.
Protective Layer

This mod gives you an extra layer of protection, which is tough to argue against when you haven’t collected the components for more protection yet.
It might be only one extra layer, but your early health is so limited that it can be the difference between beating a boss and that boss beating you.

You can pick up this mod after you meet Rad on the floor above the Workshop and free him from the door. Head to the left, and you’ll be able to slip down into a dead-end area that has a locked container. Kill the enemies, and the container opens to give you the mod.

2.
Analyser

The Analyser is a simple little mod that lets you see how much health enemies have. It only take 5 spots, so it’s easy to fit it into your mod selections.
While it’s not necessary to see enemy health, I feel less stressed when I have an idea of how much longer I need to survive a battle to win, or if it’s better to die and try again.
To get this mod, you need to take the elevator in the Workshop to the Apartments, then go to the left and down. Go to the right and find Rad stuck in the door. Help them out, and they’ll give you the mod as a thanks.
3.
Maintenance Hack

With this mod, the Protective Coat repair at Nacre Basins is free. You’ll come across a lot of basins throughout the game, and being able to save your Nacre with this mod can help a lot, especially when you’re still filling Shii’s pond with Nacre.
Maintenance Hack is easy to get. After you find Mel, head to the Workshop, and she’ll have this mod available for purchase.
4.
The Hand’s Greed

This mod makes it so damage inflicted on enemies increases for each layer of protection that Mio has already lost.
While you get it early, this mod is also nice going into mid-game, as you’re likely to take damage from bosses. At least this way, you get the benefit of dealing more damage as a result.

To get this mod, you’ll need to go to the Feral Undergrowth under Haven and climb branches to reach a broken robot that’s difficult to spot if you don’t know it’s there. Use Hairpin to climb up and salvage the mod from its parts.
5.
Glitch Trail

This mod leaves a trail that hurts enemies after using the Hairpin on any target. While it’s nice for general mobs, most bosses have crystals you can Hairpin.
You can also Hairpin the bosses themselves. As a result, this mod can help you deal extra damage as you dodge bosses.

Glitch Trail is also located in Haven, and you’ll need Hairpin to reach it. On the second level of the elevator to the right of Shii, continuing going to the right until you reach a portion where you have to go up and right to continue. Instead, you’ll hop up the branches in that room to find this mod.
A lot of mods are hidden around the map, so exploring is always worth the time, because you might find a new mod to use. These are great going through early sections, and even the mid-game, but I’ve picked up a fair number of other mods that don’t fit my playstyle, but might fit yours.
