As one of the early-game bosses in Mewgenics, Magnus might not look intimidating; however, his movesets are somewhat tricky to deal with if you don’t have the right setup.
Since Magnus is a starter boss, you don’t need a lot of Items, especially rare ones, to beat him. All you need is a decent crew and a strategy. Nonetheless, it never hurts to have your cats equipped with the right Items, in case your strategy goes South.
This guide will walk you through the preparation phase, Magnus’ moveset, and finally, how to beat the boss in Mewgenics.
How To Prepare

When setting out on an Adventure and choosing your cats, make sure to have two cats with high Constitution – one for your Fighter and another for the Cleric-Tank/Tank build. Based on my experience, I would advise trying out the Cleric-Tank build that I use on most of my runs. This Cleric Class build not only serves as a reliable tank for your party but also supports your team with valuable healing abilities.
If you don’t have a Cleric Class collar, feel free to replace it with a Tank Class. As for the other cats, assign them Fighter, Mage, and Hunter Classes. Mages and Hunters are also effective against Magnus due to their wide attack range. Your Fighter and Cleric with high HP should be used to deal melee damage to the boss, while the other two deal long-range damage.
When choosing Items, prioritize those that boost Armor, Strength, and Constitution for your Fighter and Cleric. For your Mage and Hunter, consider equipping Items such as Feathered Cap, Survivalist’s Gaiter, or Zukin, as they boost Charisma or Intelligence and improve your ability to evade enemy attacks.
Magnus Moveset

Magnus has two moves – Chain Dash and Spin. Both of his moves deal serious damage and can potentially take out multiple cats in a single turn. During my first face-off against Magnus, my cats were downed multiple times by him, thus making their stats fall rapidly.
Chain Dash – When using this attack, Magnus dashes towards its target and lands a heavy strike. Followed by this, he dashes again towards his left or right, thus allowing him to move away from your cat’s attack range easily. Additionally, the boss will also deal damage to your crew if they get in the way of his second dash.
Spin – Magnus’ Spin attack makes him spin and inflict damage to all adjacent units. To avoid getting your party wiped out at once, especially when they are at low health, don’t have more than one cat stand next to Magnus.
How To Beat Magnus

During this boss fight, you’ll be able to utilize the tall grass to your advantage since most attacks miss on tiles with tall grass. Use your Fighter to deal the majority chunk of the damage and keep the Cleric close by to heal the Fighter. The Cleric cat’s tank nature (due to its high Constitution) allows it to survive for pronlonged period and assist other cats as well. Equip healables to your Cleric and prioritize its survival.
Additionally, you would want to keep dealing ranged damage with your Hunter and Mage, with some distance maintained at all times. Use Items like Zukin or Feathered Cap to evade enemy attacks since these two Classes usually have low Constitution, and can easily be downed in a single turn.
If you haven’t unlocked the Cleric Class yet, stick to the same playstyle, but make sure to equip your Tank cat with a weapon so it can deal extra damage while your Fighter cat finishes off the boss.
When it comes to defense, you should avoid placing multiple units adjacent to Magnus at all costs since his Spin attack can stack damage to your cats. Another pro-tip would be to keep your Tank/Cleric in front of the boss to absorb the damage dealt by his Chain Dash. You must also not place any cat in a straight line to the left or right of your Tank as Magnus makes a second dash on either side, right after landing his first hit.
