Dark And Darker, after a long standing dispute is back on Steam and Epic Stores, and the game has steadily climbed the popularity charts on Steam. At the time of writing, the game has around 44k active players on Steam, having hit a high of 54k over the weekend. However, on account of multiple types of accounts, some questions have been asked of it, specifically if Dark And Darker is Pay To Win. We go through this question in detail in the article below
Dark And Darker Free To Play Status
Dark And Darker is a Free To Play, with the default ‘Squire Status’ account allowing players to access the game only on Normal difficulty settings and one character slot. The settings had also previously extended to item drops – thus, players on Normal difficulty settings could not upgrade, or get their hands on weapons and items with Legend level rarity. This is opposed to the ‘Legendary Status’ which requires purchasing in-game currency equivalent to 30 $; which does not have these restrictions. In some ways, the game, thus being PVPVE, it could be argued, offers players who pay (through micro-transactions) and upgrade the account status to having better access to weapons and items, and hence being at an advantage.
However, the latest update from developer Ironmace has balanced the playing field as far as this difference is concerned, by allowing players with a ‘Squire Status’ account also to buy items on the marketplace, and allowing upgrading items to Legend level rarity – thus, levelling the playing field between the different types of accounts.
Is Dark And Darker Pay To Win
Dark And Darker is not a Pay To Win game as the current matchmaking ensures that players with similar power levels, gear and weapons are grouped together – thus, those who may have upgraded to the Legend Status accounts by paying 30$ will in any case be grouped with similar players; and they will not have an unfair advantage over Squire Status accounts. Thus, while the current system of microtransactions and limited access is something that the players are perhaps rightfully not happy with – that does not make the game a Pay To Win game.
However, the game does offer decent content for free; and we have been actively covering the game in detail with a guides around the best comp duo in Dark And Darker; or how to kill the Demon Berserker boss
