How To Get Double Jump Boots Early in Outer Worlds 2

Exploring new planets in The Outer Worlds 2 means doing a lot of climbing, jumping, and figuring out ways to get around when elevators decide to stop working. Having a double jump really comes in handy for that. It saves you time and helps you reach spots that look impossible at first.

But here’s the thing most players don’t realize: the double jump isn’t something you unlock by leveling up. It’s actually tied to a special item that you can easily miss if you’re not paying attention.

The Outer Worlds 2: How To Get Double Jump Boots Skill

You acquire the double jump boots by completing the side quest “A Final Death for Gravity” in Fairfield. It starts once you make it to Fairfield, an early-game area. If you skip over this place or rush through the main story, there’s a good chance you’ll miss out on getting the boots completely.

    Talk to Huell in Fairfield

When you arrive in Fairfield, head to the Constabulary building and look for a man named Huell Chaudry. You’ll find him standing outside on the porch, complaining to anyone who’ll listen. Speak to him to start the “Perilous Journey to the Grove” side quest.

During your conversation, Huell will tell you about Jackson Plum, an inventor located in Spire Grove, who supposedly has the blueprints for a device that could make both of them rich. Your next objective is to meet Jackson and see what he’s working on.

    Travel to Spire Grove

Once the quest begins, head southwest of Fairfield toward Spire Grove. There are two ways to get there: if your Engineering skill is at least Level 3, you can use the cargo lift near the mountain to reach the upper area quickly. If not, take the cliffside path to the right of the lift and climb up manually.

When you reach the grove, you’ll hear a short conversation between several characters before one of them, Jackson Plum, falls from the platform above. Unfortunately, Jackson won’t be around for long, but this event triggers the start of the “A Final Death for Gravity” quest.

Start “A Final Death for Gravity”

After witnessing the fall, approach Jackson’s body near the tower in Spire Grove. Inspecting it will start A Final Death for Gravity, continuing from the earlier “Perilous Journey” quest. You’ll also meet the Integrators, who explain how Jackson’s experimental gear, the P.A.L.E. Booster, works.

    Loot the Plasma Thruster Boots

Once you’ve spoken to the Integrators and completed the short sequence, loot Jackson Plum’s corpse to obtain the Plasma Thruster Boots (P.A.L.E. Booster). This item automatically grants you the Double Jump ability.

Therefore, there’s no need to equip or activate it manually. Once obtained, the boots remain permanently equipped to your character.

These boots act as thrusters, allowing you to perform a short second jump mid-air. They’re especially handy for reaching higher ledges or crossing wider gaps that would normally be out of reach.

How To Use the Double Jump in The Outer Worlds 2

Using the Double Jump in The Outer Worlds 2 is simple. Just press the jump button a second time while in the air, and the Plasma Thruster Boots will activate. This lets you propel yourself upward once more, effectively doubling your jump height and distance.

Your Companions can also benefit from your improved mobility. You will now have the ability to reach new areas often opens up additional dialogue, loot, or encounters when exploring alongside them.

However, the boots won’t save you from fall damage. If you drop from a critical height, you’ll still take full damage, even if you try to use the double jump to slow your fall.

The P.A.L.E. Double Jump Boots are one of those upgrades that make getting around in The Outer Worlds 2 so much easier. It’s super easy to miss the quest if you’re only focused on the main story, but if you take the time to help Huell out early on, you’ll unlock one of the best movement upgrades in the game.
