Once Human, the multi-player survival game that has been one of the most anticipated games on Steam, has been keeping players busy since its launch with its core gameplay of collecting resources, gear, base building and upgrading your character as well as your base. One mechanic that is surprisingly well-developed is farming, and in this guide we have put up all the details on how to farm in Once Human.
How To Farm In Once Human
The first step to begin farming in Once Human is to unlock Planting from the Logistics tree in Memetics. You can then place Loamy Soil in your base and start planting seeds that you would have collected when exploring! You will now need to plan and set up for water, light and irrigation – just like you would in real life. Later on, you can unlock ‘Planter Boxes’ – that will look much better than just growing plants on the floor of your territory. However, for now, the easiest way to just get started is to give water manually, and let plants take in light from the sun – thus, plants will grow faster during the day and not grow at all during the night. As far as water is concerned, you can select how many units of water do you want to give when you approach and interact with the seed. The number of units can be selected such that the bar remains green. In case the water is dirty or is salt water, you can always boil the water first and then water the seed.
There are various ways to speed up the process, but they will require certain tech nodes to be unlocked, and some of these can only be done after you have progressed sufficiently in the game. Lets have a look at all these options – Fertilizer, Irrigation and Lights
How To Use Fertilizer in Once Human
You can unlock Compost Bins to convert spoiled food into fertilizer. This requires 30 Log, 10 Metal Scraps and 10 Sintered Brick. Place the Compost Bin anywhere in your territory, interact with it to add ‘Spoiled Food’ from your inventory, wait for the required time as shown on screen, and once completed, you will have the fertilizer ready for use.
The quality of the Fertilizer can be further improved by unlocking Fertilizer I, II and III nodes from the Logistics tree. This will help speed up the process and also improve yield quality.
How To Use Irrigation In Once Human
- Unlock the Rainwater Collection System to be able to store water in a Water Tank.
- Use a Water Filter to purify the collected rainwater into Pure Water
- Use an Automated Irrigation that sets up a Sprinkler System to take the Pure Water and automatically sprinkle it over the plants. You can control the flow of water as required to keep the plant condition green.
All the above can be unlocked from the Logistics tree in the Memetics tab at various levels.
How To Use Lighting & Electricity For Farming In Once Human
- Unlock the Grow Lights to eliminate the need to depend on sunlight for plant growth
- Unlock the Generator and Electrical Kit to be able to power up the lights and the irrigation system described above
How To Grow Deviant Crops In Once Human
Deviant Crops in Once Human require deviant variations of seeds, and the help of Buzzy Bee Deviant.
