The second boss in the BO7 campaign lets you come face-to-face with the monstrous version of Master Sergeant Frank Woods, who turns into The Nightmare. This colossal being offers a few tricks up its sleeves, making the fight more challenging. This guide will outline the steps to defeat the Nightmare in Black Ops 7.
The Nightmare Round 1
The Nightmare has three heads attached to one trunk, and along the trunk, you will spot several smaller growths. When you first start the fight, your quest objective is to destroy the Growths found on the vines. For now, avoid hitting the central section of the large open flowers and focus on hitting the smaller sprouts along the trunk of the creature. Wait for the growths to open up first before shooting them while aiming at the central glowing part.
Your best bet to take them down is to jump down towards the base and repeatedly shoot at them. Take cover under the broken structures or behind objects to avoid the toxic gas. Eventually, killing the growths will stun the larger flowers, but you are now met with a different challenge.
A few enemy minions will spawn around the boss arena now. Use your best weapons to take them down quickly before they mob you. These smaller enemies are easy to take down with any weapon. Just keep a check on your health, since the waves of monsters that will appear might seem infinite till the next round starts.
The Nightmare Round 2
Once you take care of all the smaller enemies, the objective will change again to weaken the Nightmare, which signifies round 2. This round has you repeating the above steps, starting with destroying the growths along The Nightmare first. This time around, the Nightmare will send out homing spores that will hit you and deal damage. Luckily, they travel quite slowly, so it’s easy to dodge them or take cover behind structures or shoot them down while you work on getting rid of the growths. Once the Nightmare is stunned, defeat all the summoned enemies around the arena to enter Round 3.
The Nightmare Round 3
Your final objective is to destroy The Nightmare’s three heads. Get up to a vantage point using your Grappling Hook and shoot down the central section of each of the larger heads. Wait for it to open up before unleashing your bullets on them. Since there are three of them, you need to work your way around each one to complete the objective. The heads will toggle their attacks between the toxic gas and homing spores, so keep moving around the arena to avoid taking damage.
Tips to Defeat the Nightmare Boss in Guide BO7
- The MPC-25, AK-27, or the Peacekeeper Mk1 are great options to use in the fight.
- The boss fight area is a pretty big one, and Grapple Hook will be your best friend here to get up to higher platforms and deal damage, or to simply move away from a point very quickly.
- The boss arena has ability swapping stations, use them when you want to switch things up.
- Wait for the sprouts to open up in the first two rounds before you fire away at the boss. Aim for the glowing orange bits inside while shooting.
- Occasionally, the larger flower heads will release toxic gas or spew homing spores into the surrounding area. If you get hit, you will be dealt damage, but it’s nothing a quick heal can’t take care of.
- Take cover behind objects or under broken structures to avoid getting hit. The homing spores can be shot down too.
- During the ‘Fight the Summoned Creatures’ phase, concentrate on getting rid of the smaller enemies that spawn. The boss will be invulnerable to damage, and this will be indicated by the blue shield around it’s health bar.
