Since exploration is an integral part of Frostpunk 2, and you need to deploy Frostland Teams to set up Outposts (which can be later upgraded to Settlements) to ensure a constant flow of resources. In this guide, we will tell you how to collect resources to set up Outposts and Settlements in Frostpunk 2.
How To Set Up Outposts In Frostpunk 2
Click on the marker on the Frostlands map and select the option that prompts you to create an Outpost. You will not always get this option, as Outposts can only be created at specific points or areas in the game.
The option to create Outposts unlocks once you enter the Frostland exploration stage of Frostpunk 2. This will allow you to recruit and deploy Frostland Teams. You can do so by building Logistics Districts which in turn maintains fifteen Frostland Teams at full capacity.
Once the team is recruited and ready to receive orders, you can send them to scout for new regions. Each of these expeditions will help you gather resources and set up Outposts in some of the places.
Before creating an Outpost, keep in mind that each Outpost has requirements for resources for proper maintenance. So, to ensure that you have enough resources, you need to expand your Districts. However, if you feel that a certain Outpost is requiring more resources and generating less income, you have the option to deactivate it.
After the Outpost is created, you have the option to build a Skyway or a Trail, connecting the Outpost to New London. Do this at the earliest, as only then will you be able to start harvesting resources and sending them back to the City. Creation of Trails takes time and requires Heatstamps and Prefabs.
Pro-Tip: If you already have a Trail set up from a particular Outpost to the city, check if any Outposts can be created on that route: It makes the whole Trail system that much more efficient and quick.
Upgrading Outposts To Settlements In Frostpunk 2
You can convert Outposts to Settlements once you have researched Settlement Heating within the Heating section of the Idea Tree. Also remember to connect the Outpost to the City via a Skyway before converting it into a Settlement.
To increase efficiency and resources, it is recommended to upgrade Outposts to Settlements. However, here are some other pre-requisites that you need to create a Settlement in Frostpunk 2:
- Prefabs
- Unemployed Population
- Cores
Settlements will require comparatively more resources than an Outpost for their maintenance but will produce more output with the same infrastructure. If you feel the pinch of resource drain, you always have the option to deactivate Settlements.
And that completes everything on creating outposts and settlements in Frostpunk 2. If you are looking for ways to get laws passed and approved in Frostpunk 2, or the best laws to enact first in Frostpunk 2, we have put up detailed guides for you on these topics, do check them out!
