The Isle of Emberdale marks the second island unlocked in Dragon Quest VII Reimagined, a small island with a large central volcano.
You’ll need to act quickly to avert the vision of Emberdale’s destruction, luckily I’m here to show you the quickest way to cut through the dangers of the flaming peak.
Warning Emberdale Village | Getting Bodkin Heart

Once you’ve arrived on the Emberdale isle, the teleportal back to Estard is blocked, so make sure you’re prepared before you head out. Your main objective sits in the village at the island’s center, but there’s one thing you shouldn’t miss.
If you hug the edge of the island and head west, you’ll find a Menacing Bodkin Archer. This Bodkin has some serious health, and can whittle down the party by summoning packs of smaller Bodkin Archers for support.

Tips to Defeat the Menacing Bodkin
- Focus on Fire attacks to hit its weakness; Kiefer’s Flame Slash and Maribel’s Frizz are great picks.
- If you’ve been taking fights as they come, Maribel should have Sizz, an AOE fire spell that can hit every summoned Bodkin Archer as they come.
- Use the Hero’s Heal spell and Ocean’s Devotion to keep the team healthy amidst the onslaught, as the Bodkin and his cronies can hit hard if they’re given too many turns on the field.
Defeating the Bodkin horde will earn you the Bodkin’s Heart, allowing the wielder to hit weaknesses harder. Considering their elemental spread, this works great on either Kiefer or Maribel.
Speaking to the Mayor: Head east to the island’s center to find the village, and enter the building with a door on its right side to reach the village’s north end. Speak to the mayor about the upcoming festival, and he’ll blow off the party’s concerns.

Meeting Palmela: Your next target is the old seer, Palmela, in her section of the shop to the mayor’s right. After you talk with her, head to the nearby inn for a free refresh and a flash to the evening, where the plan to save Emberdale takes shape.
Burnmont Dungeon Walkthrough

As night descends, the festival will lead the party up Burnmont, the volcano to the village’s north. Once you ascend the hill and watch a short cutscene, the party will descend into the mountain, beginning the Burnmont dungeon proper.
Once you head down the first level, hang to the right and head north to find another staircase heading down, surrounded by monsters. Killing these monsters will open up the path downwards to a small room with a Scale shield in it, a great upgrade for either the Hero or Kiefer.

Head back up and stick to the southwest of the caves as you descend. The first few levels will have staircases to descend from, while the last will require you to fight your way to the pit in the center of the room.
Most enemies in these caves you’ve encountered before, so match their elemental weakness to make easy progress. Make use of Maribel’s ice spell at this level to cut through any new threats, until you reach the fifth floor.
The save statue will indicate you’re about to head down to the area’s boss, Glowering Inferno. If you’re ready, descend one more floor to begin the final encounter.
How To Defeat the Glowering Inferno

The Glowering Inferno is Burnmont’s final challenge, a massive head that can threaten serious party-wide damage. Ice is effective against him, but that leaves the Hero and Kiefer without an option for big damage, unless we make one.
- By now, the Hero will have had access to the skill Aqua Slash for a bit, which has gone largely without use. Here, it can apply a Lightning weakness to the Glowering Inferno, as it’s part of the material monster family.
- With this Lightning weakness inflicted, Kiefer can focus on looping his self-strength buff and Lightning Slash, dealing upwards of 90 damage on successful rotations.
- Alternate between healing the party and maintaining the Lightning weakness during Hero’s turns, while chipping the Inferno down with ice on Maribel’s turns.
When defeated, the Glowering Inferno will drop a Red Fragment, usable for another island. For now, though, take the shortcut back to the entrance, which will leave you beside the Scale shield chest if you missed it earlier. Congratulations on clearing Emberdale!
