Revival of an unforgettable classic, Dragon Quest 3 HD-2D comes as a refreshing RPG that reminisces of the previous games while bringing new experiences to the table. You start out as the protagonist who will be departing on his 16th birthday to find King Baramos while also bringing other evil forces down along the way. Unlike other RPGs, Dragon Quest 3 HD-2D Remake has a non-linear storyline, with new quests and battles unlocking as you go around exploring the world.
The villains and bosses in this game have to be defeated by strategic moves and a carefully selected party. One such boss fight is with Orochi, a monster that’s been terrorizing a whole town.
Orochi: About The Multi-headed Serpent
You can find Orochi when you enter Jipang and advance further into the story of Dragon Quest. This area can be found by rowing North from Reeve using a boat.
The monster appears as a green snake-like creature that demands the residents of Jipang to sacrifice young girls at a nearby volcano. You and your party would have to confront the serpent to free the village of the monster. If you manage to defeat Orochi, you can get ahold of a special sword that can help you defeat other bosses.
Orochi Boss Fight: Spells & Attacks
Orochi can perform single target and basic attacks. She also has the ability of fire and flame breaths (making her immune to fire attacks). With almost 30-40 Fire Breath damage to the player each time it attacks, you’ll need to keep healing the party to last the entire boss fight. Here is a list of spells and their effect on Orochi.
- Crack Spell- 0% Resistance, Great damage on Orochi.
- Woosh Spell- 0% Resistance, Great damage on Orochi.
- Snooze Spell- 25% Resistance, can affect Orochi, but not as powerful as the others.
- Dazzle Spell- 25% Resistance, it affects Orochi as well, but the effects won’t last for long.
- Sap Spell- 25% Resistance, can be effective in causing damage if used at the right time.
Orochi is 100% Resistant to Whack, Kamikazee, Poof, Fuddle, and Fizzle Spells, so try to stay away from these.
Setting Up the Party
Both forms of Orochi have powerful attacks, so it is necessary to keep your party’s health full. It is recommended to have warriors and a sage on your team so that party attacks are more efficient. The warriors will be able to focus on damaging Orochi, while the sages can heal the group after every attack.
These party members can start healing the team between casting Kabuff and Sap. Prioritizing health rather than just attacking the Orochi will lead to an easier victory.
Using Buffs & Attacks Efficiently
The outcome of the fight with Orochi will be greatly determined by the buffs that you use during the battle. Ooomph spell can double every hit by the player, giving them more power against the deadly monster.
The best time to attack Orochi would be right after using spells like the Snooze and Sap spells. Orochi would be weakened and attacking at this moment would do more damage. Use single target weapons and cast Bikill, so that every strike has more effect.
Use Sap on Orochi, as it will slow the monster down and help you damage it greatly. Casting Kabuff will help increase the party’s abilities to defend. You don’t need to be on a very high level to defeat Orochi, just use these spells and keep focusing on your party’s health status.
Defeating Orochi for the first time will drop a special sword that you can use against the next boss. If you somehow forget to take the sword, it won’t show up again. Use the new weapon and the same previous strategies to bring down Orochi when he respawns again.
After the Boss Fight
Once you manage to defeat Orochi (twice), you can leave the place through a portal that will appear after the fight ends. Don’t be in a hurry and leave using another way, as Orochi will likely be brought back to life and you’d have to defeat her again.
The boss fight rewards us with various gifts like:
- A single Dieamend
- A Yggdrasil Leaf
- An Agility ring
Defeating Orochi isn’t easy, but if you utilize combat strategies and buffs well, you’ll have a better chance of winning against the stubborn serpent. If you have a hard time defeating Orochi, you can leave this boss fight for a later time when you are on a higher level.
