Episode Heresy Act 1 of Destiny 2 now includes a couple of secret quests that will help you unlock some rare treasures. One of the most sought after items in the latest update is the newest Exotic SMG, the Barrow Dyad. But to get your hands on this weapon, you need to complete two particular quests, and each of them will take you around the Nether and beyond to complete it. In this guide we will give you the rundown on how you can get the Barrow-Dyad in Destiny 2.
How To Start The Taken Path Quest In Destiny 2
To get the Barrow-Dyad, you need to complete a particular quest called the Taken Path, followed by the Derealize quest. Your first task is to activate and complete The Take Path, which you can do by following the steps below.
- Hop into The Nether: Explore, as it will be easier for you to complete the quest on your own.
- Your objective here is to locate the Taken Blight, and there are three locations to look for it:
- The Mausoleum – On a nearby wall near the spawn point.
- Hall of Souls – Head into the Tormentor encounter room and check out the tops of the pillars.
- Trenchway – Head into Dreadnaught right across the spawn point and explore the outskirts.
- Once you find the Taken Blight, hop into it to be teleported.
- Ignore the other portal inside the new room, as this will just take you back to your previous location.

- There is a circular plate with a pointed end on the floor within the new room, and you need to step on it facing the direction the plate is pointing to.
- You will get a notification on your log with the text “Something whispers to the…” and a particular direction is mentioned.
- You need to look towards the direction mentioned and follow the path, which will teleport you to the other side of the room.
- There is a Taken Osseous Fragment here, pick it up and return to the Last City.
- Interact with the Slab in Eris’ apartment to start the Taken Path quest.
The Taken Path Quest Guide
The quest itself is pretty simple, as you just need to locate several Taken Osseous Fragments to unlock the Derealize quest. Before you hop into the quest, be sure to purchase the Scotopic Rune from the Shaping Slab, as it is required for the quest. We have detailed the steps of where you need to go next.
Sorrow’s Harbor

- Make your way to Sorrow’s Harbor on The Moon and head over to the K1 Revelations Lost Sector to find the first “secret”.
- Keep exploring the Lost Sector till you find a Taken object in plain sight. Shoot it down, then you will encounter another plate on the floor after the Taken object explodes.
- Near the plate is a Hive Ruin, and stepping on the plate will activate a Hive Runic Symbol that will appear on it.

- You need to first face the Hive Ruin, then check out the direction in which the plate is pointing towards and face that direction.
- You might get another notification as earlier, which tells you to follow a certain direction. So do just that and walk along the direction indicated.
- You will again be teleported to another location filled with Taken enemies, then eliminate the final boss.
- This will spawn the next Taken Osseous Fragment, pick it up to complete this section to get to the next part.
Forgotten Shore

- Your next location is going to be the Cosmodrome’s Forgotten Shore. Follow the path within the Forgotten Shore till you reach Veles Labyrinth Lost Sector.
- There is another Taken object that you need to shoot down to reveal another plate on the ground.
- After that, you will spot another Hive Ruin beside it, so face the Hive Ruin and step on the plate like before.
- Wait for the notification to appear, then face the direction and walk towards it to get teleported to another location.
- There will be another plate and another Hive Ruin, repeat the steps above and keep going through the portals.
- You might go through several portals before you reach the end, where you will encounter Taken enemies and the final boss.
- Defeat the boss to get the next Taken Osseous Fragment, then exit back to Eris’ apartment.
Curses Side Quests
Interact with the Slab to get your next set of objectives, which is to collect three Taken Osseous Fragments within the Curse of Endurance, the Curse of Urgency, and the Curse of Revenge quests. We have an in-depth guide covering how to complete these quests that will make things easier.
The Nether

The final part of The Taken Path’s quest will end in the Nether’s Dreadnaught, where you need to collect the final three Taken Osseous Fragments. These fragments are tied to three Hive statues hidden away in various patrol spaces. You need to interact with the Hive Statue, which will spawn a mini-boss, then defeat it to get the fragments. You can find the Hive Statues in the following locations:
- The Mausoleum: Jump down the platform adjacent to your spawn location to find the statue.
- Hall Of Souls: Head into the middle of the Court of Oryx and keep heading left.
- The Founts: Step into the middle and look towards the movable hydraulic press, then head to the upper floor to find the statue on the right side.
Unlock and Complete the Derealize Quest
Once you have all the Taken Osseous Fragments, the quest will auto-update to include a new Derealize Quest. This quest is pretty straightforward but will take up a lot of time, where you need to defeat several enemies and keep collecting more Taken Osseous Fragments. You need to head over to the Last City to pick up this quest, and completing it will reward you with the Barrow-Dyad Exotic SMG.
