Once you embark on your journey in Demon Tides, the first place you’ll likely land upon gaining full control of where you want to go is the Split Islands. This place acts as somewhat of an easy-going tutorial island, while simultaneously being one of the least straightforward ones to 100%.
This is mainly due to the average American public school in the Northwest, which requires quite a bit of tact to tackle. You’re typically meant to come back here later after finding a portal that leads there, but let’s just say it’s not necessarily a required detour.
In this guide, I’ll be going over all the tricky collectibles and covering how to get to that big stone structure, even without the portal. I won’t be covering all the Eyetems, though, as the game provides a big glowing arrow pointing you right in the direction of all of those.
Chest #1

Starting from the default checkpoint, you’ll see a Kapernian and Lokian next to a locked chest, and to open that up, start climbing on the cube rocks in front of the checkpoint. Go forward for now, as we’ll take that side route for something else later.
Jump across the floating, spinning discs, which comprise a lot of the challenge on the Split Islands. They can be rather easy to overcome by timing your double jump to when they flip over, though. After a couple, you should be on a small stone structure, able to create a bridge to the next island.
Stay on the upper platforms of this island, and jump onto another floating disc, dash in mid-air to hit the floating crystal, and use the momentum with a spin to make your way to the small stone structure. After a few more spinning discs, you can hit a rope for a shortcut up here later.
From this last raised platform, dash off the wooden planks and jump right after, which should be more than enough to get to the crystal covered in goo. Dash into that thing, and the chest will be unlocked, allowing you to claim your hairstyle.
Chest #2

For this one, take the left path on the stone cubes that we ignored previously. Grab the silver key you’ll find on the platform, and be careful, as getting hit will break it instantly. Start by wall-running forward, and be cautious not to use your double jump at all, as it will prevent you from wall-running.
The path is very simple, but it is rather fun once you get the hang of things. Follow the trails of eyetems, then jump on the rock, up to the platform, and as long as you didn’t get hit, you can unlock the chest. This grants you a talisman and allows you to let down another rope shortcut for later.
The Stone Structure

Now, for the part you’ve been waiting for. This big stone structure contains both the Golden Gear and the last Chest, so you need to get up there if you want to progress any further. The easy way to do this is to go north and a bit west of the Split Islands to the Campsite and enter the portal, but that’s boring.
The cool way is swimming over to the fallen pillar in the water, dash jumping off of it towards the structure, and landing on the corner that tends to be a bit slippery. From there, side flip, wall run, wall jump, double jump, spin, then dash while spinning with perfect timing to land on the next level.
This becomes infinitely easier with the Spincopter Talisman, so I’d advise grabbing that if you’re going for the cool method. Once on the second layer, just carefully walk on the rim until you’re around where the portal would have put you anyway, making this a great waste of time.
Chest #3/Golden Gear

Up where the portal would drop you on the stone structure, you can run down a slope into a small dungeon. It’s very simple platforming through here, testing all the skills the Split Islands mainland had you develop, namely wall-running and timing to avoid being crushed.
After falling down a pit and dodging some spike bars, running over a bunch of evil goop, and not becoming a pancake, you can open up the chest at the end, giving you the final chest and the one Golden Gear, plus easier access to get back inside whenever you’re on the Split Islands.
