Dave the Diver has some of the most creative, fun, and a tad unhinged collaborations with other titles. It goes the extra mile to pay proper homage to its source material, to the point where players can even jump into a game of Balatro underwater.
However, the latest In the Jungle DLC scales it back, featuring surprise crossover characters more intimately by having them work as your staff. One of the biggest crossovers is Rover, the playable protagonist from Wuthering Waves. Here’s how to unlock Rover from WuWa, and how to properly prepare for the Taste of Fish quest to get there.
Taste of Fish Quest Guide

The way to unlock Rover from WuWa is by completing the Taste of Fish VIP Mission in Utara Village. This VIP Mission is given by the villager Bonita, who comes complaining to Bancho’s Grill complaining about the pungent smell of fish.
For me, Bonita appeared the night after I helped her out with her quest of finding five Water Chestnuts. After accepting this quest, the Water Chestnuts plant will be highlighted during your dives into the freshwater lake. However, this optional quest doesn’t seem to be a prerequisite to start the VIP mission.
Once the Taste of Fish VIP Mission starts, Bancho will request you to collect one Black Caiman Tail, two Thai Chilies, and one Palm Sugar within two days. While this deadline is tight, it’s doable if you prioritize this to unlock Rover from WuWa.
Where to Find Thai Chilies and Palm Sugar in Dave the Diver

Completing the Taste of Fish VIP mission requires players to find Thai Chilies and Palm Sugar. These cooking ingredients can be found inside cooking pots scattered within the freshwater lake. However, these cooking pots might also include other ingredients from Utara Village, so there’s no guarantee you’ll find them.
Since the environment reshapes itself after each dive, make sure to go for a second dive after resetting. Hopefully, RNG will be kind enough to grant both of these ingredients used to unlock Rover in WuWa. However, a less stressful way to find these ingredients is through increasing your relationship with Lintha, the village herbalist.
Much like what you’ve seen from the best cozy games, raising relationship hearts involves giving gifts and completing tasks for the villager. Fortunately, Lintha gives an easy quest early on where she requests Bamboo Shoots, which are conveniently located behind her hut.
Get her to three hearts, and she’ll sell more herbs and spices, including Thai Chilies and Palm Sugar. Unfortunately, if you haven’t been working on this ahead of time, then it’s back to the freshwater lake to scavenge cooking pots.
Where to Find Caiman Tail in Dave the Diver

The main ingredient of the dish needed to finish the Taste of Fish quest and unlock Rover from WuWa is the Caiman Tail. This large, black alligator is located to the right of the freshwater lake, a few meters below the surface.
Before you can claim the Caiman Tail, it’s best to visit the researcher next to your tent and upgrade your Jungle Gun, giving you much-needed firepower to fight the menacing alligator. The fight itself is more of a gear check rather than a test of skill; nothing worse than what you’ve dealt with before starting the In the Jungle DLC.
The Alligator has a tough hide, so you’ll need to aim for its soft underbelly for a critical hit. While it does have a powerful bite, you can throw the enemy off by sticking close and circling it, aiming for the underbelly whenever it’s exposed.
Most likely, this will take 1-2 full magazines from all forms of the Jungle Gun. If you run out of ammo, simply leave the area and search for more ammo crates before coming back. This is a tough enemy, but not a boss fight, so you’re always free to leave the area for a breather, as long as you don’t resurface from your dive.
After defeating the Caiman, make sure to use a Drone rather than carving. This gives you a high chance to get the Caiman Tail, plus it also yields more of its expensive meat.
How to Unlock Rover from WuWa
Have all these ingredients ready before or on the final day, and this will complete the Taste of Fish quest. After the cutscene, this will unlock Rover from WuWa, who casually strolls into the scene and asks to work in Bancho’s Grill. Players can also talk to Rover outside of work hours at the beach, where he makes references that Wuthering Waves players will appreciate.
Rover is best suited as a server or dispatcher due to his skills. His first skill, Resonance, is perfect for players grinding Doni, since it causes customers to leave more and bigger tips. Rover’s second skill is Dispatch Master, which lets him find more items during Dispatch runs.
It’s best to utilize Rover early to hoard a stockpile of Doni, useful for purchasing upgrades and gifts. However, don’t be too attached since you’ll preferably swap him out for a more efficient server once more customers start to pour in. At least he’ll always be useful through Dispatch missions.
