The latest monster-hunting title in Monster Hunter Wilds brings in tons of new enemy encounters for you to defeat and capture. The further into the game you explore, the tougher the monster encounters get. Once you reach the rock-filled section of Windward Plains, you have a chance to encounter the Chatacabra, a large amphibious creature that uses its tongue to attack. In this guide we have all the details on how to beat the Chatacabra in Monster Hunter Wilds.
Chatacabra Location Monster Hunter Wilds

The Chatacabra is one of the first boss monster encounters, so it is crucial to know its habitat and how to defeat it. You can spot the Chatacabra in the Windward Plains, east of Zone 3, and make its den deep within the underground caverns in the rocky sections of this region. The Chatacabra is usually docile to passes-by, but don’t underestimate its attacks when you meet it face to face. Other areas where you might find the Chatacabra later on are in the wetlands of Zone 8, and passing by Zone 12 to reach the deserts of Zone 13.
How To Beat The Chatacabra
Since this is one of the first bosses you will encounter, you might not have a lot of higher-level weapons or gear to help you out. You can still beat the Chatacabra in early game with the right tactics and learning how the creature works, as well as its weaknesses.

- For the weak spots, you should focus on hitting the Chatacabra’s tongue, rear, and arms.
- The Chatacabra will coat its arms with dirt and stones to make it stronger. Chip away at the dirt to reveal its arm underneath and attack it to cause stagger.
- This boss will also use its tongue to attack, so dodge or roll away first, then quickly jump in and hit the tongue to deal damage.
- Its rear is one of the best and safest places to attack, so stay behind it and chip away when you get the space.
- The Chatacabra will mostly attack whatever is in front of it, and will take several moments to rotate itself towards you. You can stay on its back and keep hitting it till you get an opportunity to hit its arms or tongue.
- Its tongue offers immense long range, so it’s not a good idea to stray too far from the boss fight or hang around at the sides of the Chatacabra for too long.
- The Chatacabra will also use its body to leap smash and dash at you. Its speed is impeccable, and can deal immense damage if hit.

- If you spot the boss lifting up an arm or both arms, avoid the area of impact as it will smash down. Also avoid the surrounding area if it leaps up in the air.
- There are telltale signs of when the boss will attack, as it will pause momentarily and charge up. Use this time to plan where you wish to dodge.
- There is a heavy charge attack as well where the Chatacabra will take a moment to charge up, then dash in a given direction. Stay away from its path of attack so you don’t get thrown off.
- Another great way to deal hits on the boss is to look out for weather events. Lightning strikes can randomly deal damage to anyone it hits, so you can wait till the Chatacabra gets hit by one.
- You can also trigger boulders to fall on the Chatacabra by shooting at any boulder above the creature. Vines are another great item to cut loose if you spot a Chatacabra sitting under them.
- If you spot Flashflies in your surroundings, hit them to cause Daze to the boss.
