While following through the Shattered Veil’s main questline, you encounter a lot of secret Easter Eggs. There is also a final boss fight with the zombified Z-Rex that will keep you engaged on the new map. Not only can you defeat the boss to get some unique loot, but you can also use it as a mount and traverse the new map on it. This guide will cover how to beat and how to ride the Z-Rex in Black Ops 6.
Z-Rex Fight Preparation In BO6
The Z-Rex is just a zombified T-Rex and is the boss for Shattered Veil. First, you need to prepare yourself for the inevitable, and to do that you need to load up on some of the best GobbleGums, weapons, perks, and upgrades.
Best Gobblegums
- Idle Eyes – Zombies ignore you for 30s.
- Phoenix Up – Revive all teammates, and they get to keep their perks.
- Near Death Experience – Revive yourself automatically or by being near your team.
- Reign Drops – Spawns all core Power-Ups at one go.
Best Perk-A-Cola
- Jugger-Nog – Increases max health.
- Stamin-Up – Increases movement speed.
- Deadshot Daiquiri – Increases critical damage and aims at enemy’s critical locations while ADS.
- Speed Cola – Increases armor replating and reload speed.
Best Field Upgrade, Perk, Throwable, and Scorestreaks
- Aether Shroud – Turns you invisible, lasts 5 seconds.
- LT53 Kazimir – Creates a gravitational pull and drags zombies towards it, killing them instantly.
- Dying Wish – Prevents you from entering Last Stand and enables Berserker mode instead.
- Chopper Gunner – Summons an assault chopper, and you can use their turret to kill zombies.
- Mutant Injection – Can transform yourself into a Mangler.
- War Machine – Summons a multi-shot grenade launcher.

How to Beat Z-Rex in BO6
Most of the above setup is aimed primarily at surviving the Z-Rex battle. Besides dealing with the giant zombified dino, you also have to deal with swarms of Zombies. The main takeaway from this fight is to avoid the following:
- The toxic sludge pools around the boss’s arena, as it will slow you down and reduce your health regeneration.
- The boss will attack using its tail and its teeth, so keep your distance and avoid interacting with it up close.
- Also, the boss will jump up and slam down, dealing massive knockback AoE.
The Z-Rex does have weak spots, and those are its eyes and the glowing green areas at its sides. At each interval of the Z-Rex’s health, particularly at 75%, 50%, and 25% HP, the boss will move out of the arena and become immune. It will also start raining down acid, and more zombies will spawn. It is best to move as far away as possible to avoid getting caught in it, but you can use this time to thin out the zombie herd till the boss jumps back down.
If you are overwhelmed by zombies, defeat the acid zombies first then deal with the regular zombies. If working in a team, you or your teammates can help thin out the zombie crowd while others aim for the boss. Solo players should focus on clearing the zombies first before defeating the boss to avoid getting overwhelmed. The easiest way to cheese the Z-Rex is to summon two or more Chopper Gunners and use the turrets to fire down at the dino. You will be safe while up in the air and can deal immense damage to the boss, quickly ending the fight.
How to Ride the Z-Rex in BO6
To ride the Z-Rex, you need to go up close towards the boss’s tail and wait for it to whack you into the air. Try to aim and land on the dino’s back while falling, then press and hold down the Interact or Use button to hang on to it. You can then melee the boss on its back till you fall off again, and repeat this step as many times as you like to show off to your teammates. If you want to consistently ride the Z-Rex, then you need to stay under the boss at all times and hope that its tail will whip you up into the air so you can land on its back.
