Marvel Rivals has been consistently getting gamers involved in its addictive and fun gameplay loop. The opportunity to don your favorite superhero’s colors and unleash their devastating abilities is too tempting an offer to pass on. Gamers across platforms would love to get their hands on this game, including those who have a PS4 as their main gaming console.
Is Marvel Rivals Available On PS4?
No, Marvel Rivals cannot be played on a PS4. The developers have worked on the game using Unreal Engine 5, and launched it only for current-gen consoles: the PS5, and Xbox Series S|X (and, of course, PC with the right specs).
While there have been games that are getting launched for PS4 and PS5 both in the current year as well, that number has seen a large drop as developers are increasingly focusing on harnessing the processing speed and power of PS5 over launching it on PS4 and compromising the visual performance and graphics fidelity in any which way.
Why Can’t Marvel Rivals Be Played On PS4?
The restrictions on frame rate, high possibility of stuttering, and possible compromises on the visual polish and look-and-feel of the game are probably the main reasons why NetEase Games have shied away from including PS4 also into the platforms that Marvel Rivals can be played on.
This is a question that has been asked around and is a matter of lively debate, but the conclusion that comes across, unfortunately, is that the game simply won’t perform to the expected standards on a PS4, and hence, the availability is limited to PS5.
Will Marvel Rivals Come To PS4?
While it is not a definite no, it is unlikely that the game will come to PS4. NetEase Games has for sure not given any possible indications through their announcements and updates that can point towards a potential PS4 launch. However, there have obviously been successful (and unsuccessful) ports of current-gen console releases that have eventually made their way to old-gen consoles.
NetEase Games may eventually take a call that the potential number of players on PS4 that can be included to the active player count (which, on Steam currently, stands at an impressive 109k) is too big a number to ignore and make efforts in developing a PS4 port.
Till that time that happens, however, we will have to be satisfied in playing the latest seasons in Marvel Rivals in their full visual glory on the current-gen consoles.
