In Metaphor: ReFantazio, focusing on your character’s attributes is one way to better your skills, but improving your Archetypes will help you and your team unlock and use new powers to take down tough enemies. For that, you need to gather Magla or MAG, which helps upgrade your Archetypes. The more you upgrade them, the stronger they get, and the more powers you can unlock.
In this guide we have detailed out the best ways to farm MAG in Metaphor: ReFantazio, and given the best areas and enemies for early game, mid game and late game farming.
Early Game Best Places To Farm MAG In Metaphor: ReFantazio
Regalith Cathedral
Since the Regalith Cathedral is unlocked early in the game, this is a great spot to get MAG. As long as you don’t destroy the Trance Crystal near the Servant’s Chambers Rest Area, enemies will continue to spawn. If you find the Trance Crystal in poor condition and about to break, take a rest at the nearest Rest Area and wait for the crystal to replenish its health.
Also, defeating the Blue Elmenta and Watchdog Hundo enemies within the Regalith Cathedral will drop good amounts of MAG. If they flee, you can exit and reenter the dungeon to have them respawn. Blue Elementa are weak to Fire attacks, so equipping the Mage Archetype will help you unlock Fire skills for this level.
Belega Corridor
The final two floors just before the boss fight is where you can find Goborns in the Belega Corridor. Once you clear out the first of the two floors, you can venture to the next floor, then come back to the previous floor to find that all the Goborns have respawned, just waiting for you to farm them. You will reach Belega Corridor Dungeon as part of the “A Bullish Embargo” quest for Brigitta.
Nord Mines
The Nord Mines are another great place to find enemies that can help you get MAG. Head over to Dig Site 2 after the Storehouse Rest Area to find Feral Hundo, Gelatinos, and Serpetia enemies. This area unlocks after defeating Captain Klinger. After defeating all enemies in Dig Site 2, you can respawn enemies by heading back to the Storehouse and reentering the site. Also, you can try your hand at defeating the Fire Dragon Mauna and Homo Fulquilo bosses for some extra MAG drops.
Tradia Desert
After reaching Grand Trad, venture out to the Tradia Desert, specifically towards Traveller’s Graveyard. Once here, keep an eye out for Sandworm Valmos, Hyeno, and Wild Corvo. All of these enemies drop high amounts of MAG and they are quite common, making them the best farming targets in the game. You can always exit and reenter Tradia Desert to have them respawn.
Mid Game Best Place To Farm MAG In Metaphor: ReFantazio
Orbwise Path
Once you reach mid-game, you will need places where you can farm large amounts of MAG for a short amount of time. Orbwise Path in Virga Island is one such mid-game farming location that you should not miss. The enemies here are between levels 20 to 40, so you have to bring your best here. Some monsters to look out for to farm MAG are.
- Aquatic Shuper.
- Terrestrial Shuper.
- Waterworm Valmo.
- Kapcerto Sondro.
Not only is this a great way to farm MAG, you can also gather EXP by defeating the monsters in each level of the dungeon. If you want to level up quickly, start with the lower level enemies and exit and reenter the dungeon instead of heading to the next floor. Repeat the process of defeating enemies on the first floor till you have farmed enough EXP. Once you are leveled up enough, head up to the next floor and repeat the process. Try not to rush the entire dungeon in one go and take it one floor at a time.
End Game Best Places To Farm MAG In Metaphor: ReFantazio
Tower of Insolence
Once you reach the later stages of Metaphor ReFantazio, you can venture out to the Tower of Insolence. This is a great place to farm MAG in late game. You can get here if you have picked up the Trail of the Dragon: Bygone Legacy quest. The Tower lies just north of Altabury Heights, and the optimal level to be at for defeating enemies is at least level 50 and above. Once you are inside the Tower of Insolence, you will spot several level 45 to level 55 enemies. Some of the enemies you will encounter inside are.
- Psyocro.
- Psyocropos.
- Guptauros.
- Guptauron.
Focus more on getting rid of the Psyocropos first, as they can drop huge EXP, MAG, and Reeves. These are level 50 enemies, hence why you need to level up a lot before coming here. For this dungeon, it is best to clear all the levels in one go, make your way to the very top, and defeat the final boss. After that, you can leave and reenter to continue the farming route. That way you don’t waste your mana and it won’t be a huge loss if you can’t continue another round.
Tyrant’s Star
For the best late game MAG farming route, go for the Tyrant’s Star. Start off by clearing the lower Melancholia’s Threshold and farm EXP till you are above level 75. Head over to Melancholia Depths after that and repeat the EXP farming process. Occasionally you might encounter Or-Crown Homo Tentas or Argent-Crown Homo Tentas roaming these levels. While they can be intimidating at level 88, you can defeat them using the Ambush Mechanic of stunning them before they can make the first attack.
Continue to farm MAG and EXP here till you are on par with the higher level enemies, then take them down for higher rewards.
Pro Tip: Using the Mage Archetype before venturing into dungeons will help you conserve your MP, so you won’t have to quit dungeons halfway. Also using the Synthesis Skills can help you attack multiple enemies, which is great for getting rid of crowds in a short amount of time and also uses up less MP.
Other Tips To Farm MAG In Metaphor: ReFantazio
Change Difficulty
Using an easier difficulty will help you clear levels quickly and reach bosses faster. Furthermore, you will have an easier time trying to defeat enemies by using lesser resources. That way, you can farm MAG quicker while not wasting your valuable time and resources. There is no penalty for changing difficulty during the game, so pick something easy to finish the game.
Utilize Ambush Mechanics
There are a few features that you need to take advantage of to efficiently farm MAG. While in battle, you can make use of the ‘Unscathed Triumph’ bonus, where you shouldn’t take any damage during squad battles. Upon activating the bonus, you can farm Bonus and Archetype Exp, as well as MAG and Reeves. The best way to ensure that you don’t take any damage is to do the first attack and stun your target. Filling up the stun meter will have them paralyzed for a few rounds, and you can deal your strongest attacks and defeat them.
Increasing Follower Bonds
This one does not require combat, so you can sit back and just interact with your followers. Increasing your follow bond via interaction and choosing the most favorable dialog options will reward you with a decent amount of MAG.
How To Use MAG In Metaphor: ReFantazio
With MAG, you can unlock and upgrade your Archetypes. You can also use MAG to inherit skills from one Archetype and use it in another Archetype, giving you flexibility in creating your perfect Archetype build. If you have excess MAG, you can always visit the trader near the inn in Grand Trad and exchange MAG for some Reeves.
