While following the main story quests in Avowed does introduce you to some tough choices, you shouldn’t skip out on the side quests either. In a side quest called The Dawntreader, you will face a similar ambiguous choice at a point: whether to place the Splinter of Eothas on the statue, or destroy it. In this guide, we give you the details of what happens in either choice, and which one should you choose.
All Choices & Outcomes In Dawntreader Quest

While exploring the underground cavern where the missing expedition team have ventured out to, you will encounter an area where a Godman is present. You will also notice a large, lifelike statue beside him that seems to be non-operational for now. Speaking to the Godman, who will call himself Oracle Sargamis, will help you learn how to activate the statue using the Splinter of Eothas. But the Splinter is buried somewhere deep within the cavern, and you have to help him find it.
It is best to continue on with the rest of the Dawntreader side quest, as you will uncover some unsettling news about the missing expedition team. This will also help you form your opinion on Sargamis, which will help you decide the outcome of this quest. Below are all the choices and their respective consequences for each.
Choice 1: Kill Sargamis & Place the Splinter of Eothas on the Statue

There are a few ways you can kill Sargamis if you decide to go that path. You can either go ahead and fight him head on, or convince him to sacrifice himself. If you don’t wish to engage in a fight, then choose the latter by picking the right dialog options. But the fight is pretty easy too, as long as you have your companions to help you out. Once he is dead, you can place the Splinter of Eothas in the respective spot on the statue and pull the lever. You will get a unique cutscene with The Voice.
Rewards: Last Light of Day Unique Sword, Delver’s Caution.
Choice 2: Hand Over the Splinter of Eothas to Sargamis
If you agree with sacrificing yourself for the greater good, then you can hand over the Splinter to Sargamis and offer your soul as well. This will lead to your death, but you do get a nice achievement for it.
Reward: Get in the Statue, Envoy Achievement.
Choice 3: Destroy the Statue

There are three essence generators that will supply overbearing power to the statue and ultimately destroy it, and you can find them by following the cable lines that lead away from the statue. You get to keep the Splinter of Eothas, but you will have to fight Sargamis in the process. Also, you will get a unique interaction with The Voice, who will be displeased that they don’t get an opportunity to be set free towards the end of the game. This will impact your endgame choices, so you will get a different ending if you choose this path.
Rewards: Last Light of Day Unique Sword, Delver’s Caution.
Choice 4: Ignore Sargamis
You can keep the Splinter of Eothas to yourself after you find it and turn it in at the Aedyran Embassy. But you need to ignore Sargamis from the beginning of the quest for this to work. There isn’t much that Sargamis can do, and you can entirely skip to the end of the side quest without interacting with him. As a drawback, the Voice will still not be free, so it will impact your endgame.
Rewards: Delver’s Caution, XP.
Choice 5: Convince Sargamis to Stop the Experiment
After handing over the Splinter of Eothas to Sargamis, you have to dig through the options and pick the ones that will convince him that his experiment is a failure. He will come to a realization that this won’t work out, and you are free to go. You can still choose to fuse the Splinter with the statue to help the Voice, or ignore it completely. There are no rewards to gain from this option.
Best Choice for the Dawntreader Quest

It is worth the effort to collect the Last Light of Day from Sargamis’ corpse after either killing him or sending him to his death. This unique sword has two great passive skills, where you can gain 3% of your max health by killing enemies, and your hits can deal +10% bonus Fire damage. As for the Splinter of Eothas, we feel that it would be best to place the splinter in the statue and set the Voice free.
