The snowy North Pole arrived with Abiotic Factor’s Cryosphere update, and one of the most intriguing additions I came across was the Wishing Shelf.
At first glance, it looked nothing more than festive furniture, complete with three slots and a hanging Christmas stocking.
I interacted with it, placed a few items on the shelf, and waited, expecting something to happen. I checked the stocking a few time, but it was empty. Eventually, I left the area altogether and forgot about the shelf entirely.
When I returned later to retrieve my items, I checked the stocking one last time. It was then that things finally made sense. If you’re confused about how the Wishing Shelf works or think it’s bugged, this guide breaks down exactly what it does and how to use it properly in Abiotic Factor.
Where to Find the Wishing Shelf in Abiotic Factor
The Wishing Shelf is part of the new North Pole area in the Cryosphere update. If you haven’t unlocked the North Pole portal yet, you need to find and activate a particular Snow Globe within the Inner Wing section of the Cascade Laboratories.
To find the Snow Globe, enter the Cascade Laboratories and go through the Office hallway until you reach the sign for C-Block. From there, go to Inner Wing, and you will find an entrance that will lead you to the Containment Block: DIRAC.
Go through the entrance and continue through the Inner Wing passage. Eventually, you will reach an area with several doors. Find the IS-0127 door and enter it, then interact with the Snow Globe to get to the North Pole.
Once here, head straight towards the Snowman boss, then enter the house to your right to find the Wishing Shelf at the very back of the house.
What Does the Wishing Shelf Do?
The Wishing Shelf is a duplication device that replicates items placed within the three shelf slots. This is a great way to get multiple copies of items that are otherwise hard to get.
To use the Wishing Shelf, interact with it to get to your inventory menu. On your right is the Wishing Shelf menu, which has three slots. Drag items from your inventory and drop them within the Wishing Shelf slots, then exit the menu.
All your selected items will be shown on the shelf. You need to wait for a while before the duplicates of said items will appear inside the stocking hanging below the shelf.
Check back often to find them. To swap items on the shelf, interact with it, remove the items from the slot, and put them back in your inventory. Place the new items in the slots, then wait for the duplication process to complete.
