Once Human has been making waves among gamers as the hottest new addition to the survival looter-shooter genre. With its release just over the horizon, players are excited to get their hands on this F2P title as soon as it comes out. But the post-apocalyptic wasteland is filled with perilous monsters behind every corner.
In this guide, we’ll give you 5 essential tips to help you land on your feet when you start Once Human. Let’s get started.
5 Beginner Tips for Once Human
Here are 5 essential tips to help you survive the treacherous world of Once Human
Pay Attention to Fitness Scale
Typically, character creation in games doesn’t really do a whole lot unless there is a class system. In Once Human, things are slightly different. When you’re creating your character, you’ll notice a Fitness Scale slider that makes your character slim or fat. While it may seem purely aesthetic at first, there’s a deeper mechanic involved here.
There are three types of bonuses you’ll get for adjusting the Fitness Scale. When your character’s weight is below 65 KG, you’ll have more attack speed but less damage. When within 65 – 85 KG, you’ll have better stamina recovery and damage reduction. When it’s higher than 85 KG, you’ll have less attack speed but more damage.
Here’s how the Fitness Scale works:
- Less than 65 KG
- Base Equipment Load is 80 KG.
- 10% Damage penalty.
- 15% Melee Attack Speed Boost.
- Max Stamina +25.
- 65 to 85 kg
- Base Equipment Load is 90 KG
- 10% Damage Reduction on Torso
- 20% bonus Stamina Recovery speed.
- More than 85 KG
- Base Equipment Load is 100 KG
- 10% Melee Attack Speed penalty
- 20% Rolling Speed penalty
- 15% Melee Damage bonus
- Weapon Stability +15
There are some trade-offs here. Play around with the slider and see what feels best to you.
Weapon Keyword
Gunplay is a huge part of Once Human. When you hover over certain weapons, you’ll notice Keywords such as Fast Gunner, Frost Vortex, etc. These are special perks that can boost your weapon’s performance, damage output, and more. You need to familiarize yourself with these Weapon Keywords to figure out the best way to build your character. You can get a complete list of Keywords by clicking on a Gun and pressing X on your keyboard.
Join a Hive
While the lone ranger approach might be fine for single-player games, in Once Human, joining a Hive is the best way to survive. It’s basically a Guild or Clan where you’ll be able to communicate and coordinate with other players. Go to the social panel of your game, and you’ll be able to find a list of Hives that you can join. And if you’re feeling adventurous, you can even create one yourself.
There are two things you need to know about if you want to play the game with friends – the server and the world. You and your friend must play on the same server if you want to play together. Server settings can’t be changed, so make sure you pick the right one.
The world affects things like network latency and quality. If your friends are playing on the same server, but in different worlds, you can use a Teleporter to travel to their world and play together.
Upgrade Your Settlement
Base building is a core component of Once Human, and you should always aim to build better buildings in your settlement. Higher-tier buildings in your settlement let you craft stronger weapons and armor. That, in turn, will boost your damage, survivability, and XP gains significantly.
Survival is The Key
Once Human has a lot of monsters and bosses that you’ll defeat as you play the game. It’s pretty action-heavy, which can lead to most players forgetting what this game is all about: Survival. Make sure you keep an eye on your survival metrics, such as diet, sanity, and water.
