With the kind of combat heavy game that Mortal Shell 2 is, it was important for the game to give players a good range of weapons to figure out which one works best for their playstyle. And, I am pleased to say that there is enough and more variety that the developers have added, especially when compared to the first one.
Amidst the selection on offer is the Troubadour’s Lute, an incredibly fun weapon utilizing the power of song to blast enemies from a distance. A personal favorite, the lute is one of the only sources of the Confusion debuff, a great tool for crowd control.
I’ve always loved weapons that let you sow confusion in the enemy’s ranks, so hunting this Sidearm down was a personal mission once Mortal Shell 2’s early access dropped. Allow me to point you to where to find the Mortal Shell 2 Troubadour Lute.
How to Earn the Troubadour’s Lute

The Troubadour’s Lute is found within the One Legged Wolf tavern, north of the Mushroom Village. Progress through Fainweald, clearing beacons until you cleanse the Mushroom Village Gate Beacon. Return to Marrow Keep and utilize the Gloom Siphon to earn the Mether’s Breath key item, enabling both fast travel between Beacons and the cleansing of corrupted debris.
With the Mether’s Breath acquired, return to the Mushroom Village Beacon and head to the northeast. Follow the hanging bridges upwards until you meet Hilga and Grom. Behind them is a wall of corrupted debris, prompting you to use Mether’s Breath to cleanse it.

Continue through the freshly opened clearing, cleansing the One Legged Wolf Beacon as you pass. Follow the path downwards past the Beacon towards the building, with music echoing from inside, to enter the titular One Legged Wolf Tavern, an actually peaceful locale.

Behind the Brigand performing on stage, you’ll notice a small Lute leaning against the wall. Interact with it to collect the Troubadour’s Lute, an incredibly fun and shockingly effective tool in Mortal Shell 2!

How to Utilize the Troubadour’s Lute

While melee weapons are exactly what you expect from a soulslike, Sidearms are unique ranged weapons that utilize Resolve as their ammunition. Resolve is filled by landing melee attacks and is utilized by Firearms, certain Tarstones, Infusions, and special moves.
The rapid rise and fall of the Resolve gauge make Firearms great to sneak in between attacks, and the Troubadour’s Lute is a great tool for crowd control. Firing explosive shockwaves of song, the Troubadour’s Lute is an incredibly flavorful weapon perfect for faster, single-target melees.
Pairing it with the Axe and Knife is my personal favorite playstyle in the early hours of the game, stunlocking individuals while rocking out with crowds that amass. Once the people are hyped, they’ll hit anything nearby to let their passion out! Maintaining utility for single-target bosses, stacking enough Confusion on one enemy triggers a burst of Break Damage.
Now that you’ve found your very own Lute, bring back music in the only way you know how, with your enemies as a captive audience! They’ll handle each other; just make sure to keep your distance, no touching the merchandise, after all!
