Final Fantasy Resonance: How To Beat The Maurader Boss

Final Fantasy Resonance is a pretty accessible 2D-HD JRPG, but that doesn’t mean that it isn’t without it’s sterner tests for those willing to seek them out.

One such test in the game’s first chapter is the Maurauder Boss Fight, found in the Mauruder’s cave. This bulky ogre is a tough challenge, especially if you intend to fight them before you head to chapter two. But, with this guide, we should be able to give you a fighting chance.

Where Is The Maurauder & How To Prepare

Final Fantasy Resonance: How To Beat The Maurader Boss

As mentioned, the Maurauder Boss is located in Maurader’s Cave, located in the desert just east of the Siren’s Tower. Head over the bridge, and you’ll see a small cave entrance just left of a sandfall.

We are going to assume that you are going into this one during chapter one, meaning you will only have 3x party members and limited access to visions.

With this in mind, this is the setup that we would suggest:

    • Party Level: LV.15
    • Rain Setup: Weapon: Flamberge, Armor: Knights Jacket, accessories, Bulletproof Vest, Earrings of Health, Vision: Cloud
    • Lasswell Setup: Weapon: Iwakirimaru, Armor: Knight’s Jacket, Accessories: Vitality Charm, Earrings of Health, Vision: Warrior of Light
    • Fina Setup: Weapon: Shortbow, Armor: White Dress, Accessories: Mage’s Glasses, Earrings Vision: Tronn

There are two important things that are needed to make this setup work. You need to have beaten The Siren before taking on this fight. As this will give you access to an Esper that deals weakness damage to the Maurauder. Something that is hard to come by until chapter two, as they are weak to wind.

Then, secondly, we would suggest that you bring along as many Phoenix Downs, Mist Potions and Ethers as you can without totally breaking the bank.

    How To Beat The Maurauder

The key to winning this battle is using what little advantages you have, racing the stagger bar, and being conservative when you need to be. We’ll begin on each character’s role:

Firstly, you’re biggest asset in this fight is Siren, so you should get Fina to summon her every opportunity she gets. Which means keeping her topped up with MP so she can still serve as a healer while also getting her Esper on the field.

Secondly, because Rain isn’t all the helpful in terms of their skills or elemental attacks, your best use for Rain is to ‘Fill Gauge’ as much as possible, as this will not only allow you to perform stronger limit breaks and whittle down the boss’s stagger bar, but if timed with bonus attacks, can also lead to overkill attacks and resonance attacks.

Then, with Lasswell, you’re really just looking to do as much stagger damage as you can buy using moves like Tranquility, while also applying haste where possible to your allies, and applying Protect when the boss is about to inflict a devastating blow.

As for the boss himself, he has a handful of attacks but only a few are really all that noteworthy. Firstly, his Body Slam attack is a strong single target attack which also inflicts paralysis. The best counter for this is to use Fina’s Light Veil buff that will protect from this status ailment.

Second, they have a Bravery Buff that will up their physical attacks by 50% for five turns. This can really swing things in their favor, so you can use Cloud’s Debrave skill to effectively cancel out this buff.

Then lastly, you have their devastating attack called Thwack which is the one you really need to watch out for. This attack is heavily telegraphed, and you really only have two options to avoid taking a huge hit. You either guard as a group, or you stagger the enemy.

Their stagger bar is beefy, so I would only suggest going on the offensive if you are very confident of staggering the enemy. Otherwise you’ll all want to defend in unison, as tanking the hit simply isn’t worth it.

This is the core strategy, but if this proves too difficult, we would suggest heading on to chapter two, where you will get your next party member, Lid. Plus, you’ll be able to pick up another Vision, Zidane, who will have access to wind abilities that will trivialize this fight.

    Boss Rewards

For defeating the Maurader, you’ll gain the following rewards:

    • 1x Magicite Shard
    • 500 Xp
    • 750 Gil
    • 1x Turbo Ether
    • 30 MRP (Depending on if using Mastery Ring)

The standout reward here is the Magicite Shard, which can be used to awaken one of your Visions, and gain some new powers as you head into chapter two.
