Final Fantasy Resonance employs a unique new mechanic allowing you to flick through the pages of Final Fantasy’s illustrious history books, and call upon the power of former protagonist’s and major players in past games.
These come with their own movesets, roles, and elemental strong-suits, meaning that a lot of these visions will come in handy in at least one situation or another. But, you may be wondering which ones are generally the best, and how you should assign them.
We aim to make that a little easier by walking you through all the best beginner visions, and who is best suited to pair up with them.
Note: We will be basing these beginner picks on the first two chapters and the opening stages of the third chapter.
Cloud & Rain

Cloud and Rain feel like a perfect pairing for so many reasons. Rain is great as a breaker as their Limit Break leans into stagger damage, and with Clouds Bravery and Debrave skills, you can lean into the slew of physical attacks that Rain has at their disposal.
Alongside this, Cloud also gives you really solid elemental coverage, with Thunder and Water on top of your pre-existing fire moves.
Plus, his Resonance attack is an incredibly powerful lightning attack that deals criticals consistently, which again, allows you to make the most of stagger opportunities.
However, if you’re looking for an alternative, Rain also works well with Onion Knight thanks to their Late Bloomer skill and Rain’s Fill Gauge move. As well as Warrior of Light due to their stagger buffs and physical defence buffs.
Lasswell & Terra

This will depend on whether you play Lasswell as the physical attacker, or the MP specialist, but seeing as Rain is a strong physical option, we suggest the latter. Terra is a great option if you want to do this as they give you water and fire coverage, as well as Drain which makes up for a more physically flimsy build.
On top of this, they gain magical attack and defence buffs when awakened, and a magic counter attack, further leaning into the magical specialist role. Which is topped off with a Resonance attack that deals non-elemental magic damage to a group of enemies, guaranteeing you a solid hit on any enemy who doesn’t resist magic attacks, and the ability to exact crowd control.
A possible alternative would be Tronn due to their higher stagger power and MP, but honestly, Terra is a far stronger option.
Fina & Firion

Fina’s role is a Healer, as due to this you will almost always want to use her as a utility party member rather than an all-out attacker. This is why Firion works fantastically well, as they give Firion the chance to be helpful in battle with higher stagger damage, wind coverage which is hard to come by early on, and various elemental attacks that have the chance to inflict status effects.
Plus, the Light of Rebellion skill leans into Fina’s Light type attacks naturally, making her non-elemental physical attacks more powerful. The only downside is that the Resonance Attack is also a light-type move so there is no coverage. But, it’s a small price to pay for a vision that makes your healer a viable attacker when the need arises.
Alternatives would be the likes of Leah as they will gain buffs to their healing magic, or Warrior of Light as they have a physical defence buff. But, in our eyes, Firion is the obvious choice.
Lid & Warrior of Light

While Lid is listed as a Commando, because of their little helper Mechabo and their various skills that lean into stagger damage, she plays a little bit more like a Breaker. For that reason, you want to setup with a Vision that allows you to get the most out of these moves.
Warrior of Light is the best early game choice here. The slight downside is the overlap of earth-type moves, but aside from this their setup blends nicely with Lid. They have light and thunder coverage, they have the capacity to heal using cure, and they also have protect and physical defence buffs to make Lid a tank against heavy hitters.
Plus, their Resonance Attack furthers their role as a tank, offer regen, more defence buffs, and deals physical damage to a group of enemies. I wouldn’t suggest any alternatives to Warrior of Light for Lid early on, so lock this one in.
