Assassin’s Creed 4: Black Flag had an exciting stand-alone DLC/expansion known as Assassin’s Creed Freedom Cry. In this story, players controlled pirate-turned-Assassin, Adéwalé, as he worked to free slaves and kill the Templars who were running the horrid trade. The question is, does Assassin’s Creed Black Flag Resynced remake this DLC as part of the package?
Assassin’s Creed Freedom Cry was unique because it was a stand-alone expansion that didn’t require a base copy of AC4: Black Flag to play. It was far shorter than the average Assassin’s Creed game, but was still a substantial adventure when compared to other AC DLCs before and after it. Here’s everything we know about Freedom Cry and Assassin’s Creed Black Flag Resynced.
Is Freedom Cry part of Assassin’s Creed Black Flag Resynced?
No. Assassin’s Creed Freedom Cry is not part of Assassin’s Creed Black Flag Resynced.

Resynced is a remake of the base Assassin’s Creed 4: Black Flag (with some new content) rather than a Game of the Year Edition that bundles all the DLC in one package. While some remakes often do incorporate the DLC content as part of the package, Resynced is more focused on delivering a more modern take on the original Black Flag adventure.
However, while Ubisoft haven’t said anything to indicate this, there’s always a chance that Freedom Cry does get remade as a stand-alone expansion or DLC to Resynced. They could even call it Assassin’s Creed Freedom Cry Resynced. But of course, this is entirely speculation on our part and nothing more.
Other DLC packs, such as:
- Kraken Ship Pack
- Death Vessel Pack
- Crusader & Florentine Pack
- Blackbeard’s Wrath
- Illustrious Pirates Pack
- Guild of Rogues
Could easily be retooled into Resynced should Ubisoft choose. After all, they’re likely to support the game for a long time, as they did with Shadows and other AC entries. However, it’s unlikely that DLCs such as Blackbeard’s Wrath will ever be added to Resynced due to the game not featuring multiplayer.
What about the Aveline DLC?

While Aveline de Grandpré was more affiliated with the Assassin’s Creed 3 family of games rather than AC4, the character did receive her own DLC in the original Black Flag, which bridged the gap between both games.
Aveline was an Assassin and the protagonist of Assassin’s Creed Liberation, and she briefly adventured with Connor Kenway (the grandson of Black Flag protagonist Edward Kenway) some time after both AC3 and Liberation.
Like Freedom Cry, the Aveline DLC will certainly be something that could be added to Resynced in the future, but Ubisoft has given no indication either way. If Assassin’s Creed Black Flag Resynced does receive DLC, it’s likely to be a long way off.
How about Assassin’s Creed Rogue?
Assassin’s Creed Rogue wasn’t a DLC of Assassin’s Creed 4: Black Flag, but a stand-alone side-sequel that bridged the gap between the events of AC3+4 and AC Unity.

The game flipped the script and put players in the shoes of Assassin-turned-Templar, Shay Cormac, while he took revenge on the Assassin Order for treating his life with such throwaway contempt.
During his adventure, Shay crossed swords with a now-aged Assassin, and Freedom Cry protagonist, Adéwalé, and teamed up with Edward Kenway’s Templar son, Haytham Kenway. This is before he ended up in Paris, prior to the events of Assassin’s Creed Unity, killing the father of Arno Dorian, that game’s protagonist – who, with his dying breath, threatened Shay that the current Assassin’s Grandmaster, and AC3 protagonist, Connor Kenway, had a hidden blade with Shay’s name on it.
So, Assassin’s Creed Rogue is unlikely to ever be Assassin’s Creed Resynced DLC because it was its own game. However, it did retool many of the systems that Black Flag used and felt like a Black Flag Part 2 in many ways. While it’s likely not going to be part of Assassin’s Creed Resynced, Rogue could be a contender for the remake treatment after Resynced, if the game does well. Of course, this too is speculation on our part.
