Solarpunk – How to Build and Upgrade the Airship

Solarpunk is a cozy crafting game set on a bunch of floating islands where players can work, or in groups, to grow crops, build a home, and ultimately take to the skies and explore. But, before you can get out there, visiting the trader, or exploring other floating islands, you’ll need to know how to build an Airship in Solarpunk first.

As soon as you unlock the Airship, Solarpunk will completely open up to you, giving you access to new areas, resources, and ways to get around more quickly.

How to Build an Airship Dock in Solarpunk

To save you time, stop looking for the Airship blueprint. It doesn’t work that way; you’ll need to build an Airship Dock first.

To save you time, stop looking for the Airship blueprint. It doesn’t work that way; you’ll need to build an Airship Dock first.

To build the Airship Dock, you will need the following materials:

    • 20 Iron
    • 3 Cloth
    • 70 Wood

The cloth is simple enough to get. Just plant some cotton seeds, water them, and once they’ve grown, you just need to collect them and make some cloth at a workbench. The next one requires a little bit more effort if you want to soar the skies of Solarpunk.

To collect the iron, you’ll need to travel around your first island until you come across a raw iron node, like the one in the picture below. Once you’ve found the right node, mine as much as you can before your pickaxe breaks. It doesn’t take much for the first tools to break, so the extras will help you replace them.

Next, you’ll want to build a furnace, which costs 15 stone. This one should be obvious, but just in case. To get stones, you hit rocks with a pickaxe. Got it? Good. Now it’s time to place your raw iron in the furnace alongside some fuel, such as wood, and wait for your iron to smelt.

The final item you need is wood. You know that old saying, “X doesn’t grow on trees.” Well, wood does, go chop it.

Now you’ve got all the parts, all you need to do is head on over to your workbench and build the Airship Dock.

There you go, you’ve got the first step to building an Airship in Solarpunk done. Time to get building and flying around the map.

Now you’ve got an Airship Dock, good job. But it’s not much use without an actual Airship now, is it?

Building the Airship itself is much easier. To build it, you will need the following items:

    • 10 Iron
    • 3 Cloth
    • 1 Crashed Airship Component

We’ve already covered how to get two of these items above; the final piece you need is the Crashed Airship Component. To get this, you’ll need to simply look around the island for a crashed airship. You honestly can’t miss it. Once you find it, scavenge it for parts and return to the Airship Dock, and get ready to build your first Airship in Solarpunk.

Once you’re back at the dock, simply press the build Airship button, and you’re good to go.

    Upgrading Your Airship in Solarpunk

Now you’ve figured out how to build an Airship in Solarpunk, it’s time to get flying further than before. You might have noticed that there’s a white circle around the map. Well, that’s the limit to how far you can fly; it’s time to expand that circle to reach more floating islands.

Upgrading the Airship is fairly straightforward; you simply need to unlock the correct component at the trader. The only downside is that you might have to complete a few trades before you get to the Airship Upgrade as a reward.

But once you’ve got the upgrade, simply take it back to the dock and press upgrade. You’ll notice when you next check the map that the circle has expanded, and there are more places you can explore, as well as new resources to gather, such as Silicone.
