If you find yourself struggling with Neverness to Everness’ Miles Apart quest, you’ll likely want some pointers as to which items resolve each of the memories in this time-hopping head-scratcher. Sure, you could attempt to brute-force the puzzle by simply trying every last item like you would in some obtuse point-and-click adventure, but considering that some of the correct solutions are themselves fairly well tucked away, that probably won’t end very well. Let’s get into it, shall we?
How to start the Neverness to Everness Miles Apart quest
To kick off this mission, head to the Gold Apple Collection Hall in the New Herland District on the eastern side of the map. Its icon looks like a little yellow arch, right next to a phone booth near the Regalia dealership to the south of the area. Once inside, chat with Iris and you’ll be able to use the lamp next to her to enter the Anomaly Exhibit, where Miles Apart will be the first available mission.
Upon starting the quest, you’ll be whisked away into an anomaly space where you’ll meet a bright spark by the name of Tungsten. He’ll set the scene for you before this self-contained mini-story plays out, and in truth, you shouldn’t need any help in advancing through the early stages of this quest as it’s all very linear, with progress reliant on using the light switch Tungsten gives you to flip back and forth between past and present.
But once you reach the point where a strange door appears at the end of the upstairs hallway in the past, that’s when some players are going to need a few tips, since the correct answers aren’t always obvious.

How to solve the Miles Apart memory puzzle in NTE
Once you go through the weird door leading from Patty’s upstairs hall in the past, you’ll pass into one of four memory chambers, each represented by its own symbol—a cake, a teddy bear, a book, and an easel. Around the room, you’ll notice they all have their own doors, and passing through will take you to the respective memory chamber where some dialogue will offer hints. Each room requires a particular item that can be found around the house or grounds across both past and present, with plenty of red herrings thrown in to try and trip you up. If you’re having trouble with any of these, here are the correct items to submit, and where to find them. As best I could work out, these can be collected and delivered in any order.
Cake
The correct item for this chamber can be found in the kitchen in the past. Check the notes on the fridge to find Patty’s mother’s cake recipe, which she will then try to emulate when you successfully resolve this memory.
Book
Head to the bathroom in the past and check the laundry pile to find a key. While this won’t open anything in this timeline, if you skip forward to the present, you can use it to access the locked cabinet in the storage room/study upstairs to get a pristine copy of young Patty’s favourite book. Deliver this one (rather than the battered book you’ll find elsewhere) to complete this particular memory.
Easel
After reaching the point where the mysterious door opens upstairs in the past, Patty will move out into the garden in the present. Speak with her there and she’ll ask you to find her some red paint, which will require another trip to the past. This is also found in the storage room at the end of the upstairs hall, only this time in the past; return it to her and she’ll finish her plans for the house, which you can submit in the easel memory room to tick another one off your list.
Teddy Bear
This one has several red herrings, but to find the correct bear, zip back to the past and grab the damaged teddy from the cabinet near the window in the bedroom. There is another ruined bear you can find elsewhere in the house, but if you check it in your inventory, it notes that that particular one is damaged beyond repair, so make sure to get the right one. To fix it up, travel back to the present and use the toolbox near the TV in the living room, after which you can submit it in the memory room and that should be all four sorted.

After delivering the correct items, the broken portal from the far end of the memory chamber will spring to life, allowing you to hop through and finally progress the Miles Apart quest. Next, you’ll face a series of short combat encounters, which shouldn’t prove too tough so long as your party is towards the upper end of where they can be based on your current Hunter Level. After each, jump through whichever portal is glowing to reach the next area, until eventually you wind up in a room alone with young Patty. From here, the mission goes back to being linear and easy to follow so I won’t hold your hand through the rest of it.
After finishing this side story, you’ll be taken back to Tungsten, with whom you can discuss the events that transpired should you wish, before returning to the gallery to claim your achievement. It actually seemed like that achievement was the only reward for completing this mission—I didn’t notice any pop-ups showering me with the the usual assortment of Neverness to Everness currencies, although perhaps I just missed it? Either way, Miles Apart is certainly one of NTE’s more interesting side missions so far, and it serves as a great change of pace from all the soaring around the city and beating up anomaly freaks that make up so many of the other quests.
Hopefully this helped you get another mission finished up, but in a game as broad as this, there’s always more to do…
