Like the original game and other entries in the series, Fatal Frame 2: Crimson Butterfly Remake has you use the Camera Obscura as your weapon against the spirits you encounter in Minakami Village. This means that your ammunition comes in the form of various film types used by your camera.
Every Film Type in Fatal Frame 2: Crimson Butterfly Remake

Film types vary in a few keys ways, which are abundance, exorcising power, and reload speed. As you might expect, the most abundant types tend to have the lowest exorcising power, meaning they’ll deal less damage to spirits with each shot. Here they are in order from most to least abundant.
- Type-07: Low exorcising power and slow reload, but you have an infinite amount of it.
- Type-14: Stronger than Type-07, but still weak. Its reload speed is slightly faster, and you can find it easily.
- Type-61: Average exorcising power and decent reload speed. It’s somewhat common throughout the village.
- Type-90: High exorcising power and reloads faster than Type-14. This is a rare film, so you won’t find much of it throughout the game.
- Type-00: The strongest film with a reload speed that’s a bit slower. As the strongest, it’s also the rarest, so you’ll likely want to save the small amount of this you find for boss fights.

While using different film types gives you immediate changes in the strength of your Camera Obscura, you can empower the camera further through two other ways.

First, using charms can change how much damage certain camera filters do. This stacks on the film type, so if you use the Paraceptual filter with the Paraceptual Charm equipped and use Type-61, it deals more damage than it would without the charm. Charms can have multiple other effects as well, such as restoring health when you deal damage or empowering your Special Shots.

Second, you can upgrade your camera using Prayer Beads. If you go into the menu and choose the “Camera Obcura” option, you find a list of upgrades that can be purchased with Prayer Beads. Most upgrades cost three beads, but some weaker upgrades only use a single bead.
If you change your mind, you can get Reversion Beads that are used to reset upgrades, letting you redistribute your Prayer Beads.
Once you start making use of your Prayer Beads, Charms, and swapping film types, dealing with spirits becomes much easier. I recommend taking the time to go through your options, including those available at the Point Exchange, and testing out combinations that fit your playstyle and needs. If you want to play on Nightmare, then you definitely need to be aware of how to use your resources to their fullest extent in Fatal Frame 2: Crimson Butterfly Remake.
