Baldur’s Gate 3: How to Get the Devilfoil Mask

In Baldur’s Gate 3, there are hundreds of different items that players can acquire throughout the three Acts. Methods of obtaining these items are as easy as simply purchasing them from a vendor, to as difficult as solving hidden puzzles in specified locations around the map.

If you’re wondering what the Devilfoil Mask is in Baldur’s Gate 3, a complete breakdown of this item and how it can be acquired has been included in the guide below.

What is the Devilfoil Mask in Baldur’s Gate 3?

In Baldur’s Gate 3, the Devilfoil Mask is a helmet item that can be acquired during Act 1. It has a common rarity and is known to be worn by Merregons. It also has the unique Infernal Legion passive tied to the item, meaning any character who wears the Devilfoil Mask will gain this effect.

    • Infernal Legion: When within 20 m of another creature wearing a Merregon’s mask, Strength increases by 1, and Intelligence, Wisdom, and Charisma decrease by 1 per nearby mask.

Keeping this effect in mind, the Devilfoil Mask is quite a handy Act 1 helmet for physical weapon users, primarily two-handed or Great Weapons. This is because they use STR as the attack modifier, so this stat will gain the boost. Fighters, Barbarians, and Paladins are all among some of the best Classes to use the item with, because of this.

However, as the Devilfoil Mask also adds minus points to INT, WIS, and CHA, you pretty much want to avoid equipping it to any caster in your party. Wizards use INT, Druids and Clerics use WIS, and Sorcerers and Warlocks use CHA.

All Devilfoil Mask Locations in Baldur’s Gate 3

There are four Devilfoil Masks that you can collect in total during your Baldur’s Gate 3 run. All four of these masks are located within Grymforge at the Underdark, but are scattered around the place and hidden in specific spots.

    Devilfoil Mask 1 Location

The first Devilfoil Mask in Grymforge can be found near Sargeant Thrinn, at the main digsite. It is sitting on the edge of the large table found at the approximate co-ordinates of X: -618, Y: 324.

The second Devilfoil Mask can be found sitting at the bottom of a staircase within Grymforge. In order to reach this staircase, you will need to clear the pile of rubble that is blocking the door where Skarjall is located.

This can be done by helping the Duergar or by using Speak With Animals to convince the Deep Rothe to fight back against them. If choosing the latter, the Deep Rothe will clear the rubble for you as a favor in exchange for ending the pain they were enduring.

You can then progress through the doorway that the pile of rubble was blocking. The second Devilfoil Mask will be sitting next to some skeletons at the bottom of this next set of stairs, at the approximate location of X: -667, Y: 463.

    Devilfoil Mask 3 & 4 Location

The last two Devilfoil Masks can be found in the same location, within a locked door at Grymforge. From when you get the second Devilfoil mask, continue heading up the stairs until you reach the long, narrow strip of flooring. Walk down this path partially until you come to the iron ladder, and now climb down.

You will now be on a lower level with a hanging platform. You will need to have all but one party member jump onto this hanging platform. Now, with the leftover party member, head over to the two levers.

Pull the left level down first, and this will raise the hanging platform higher. Now, pull the second lever, and you will send the rest of your party members across the gap.

Once at the other side, continue to follow the path forward and into the big open room. There will be a locked wooden door in this room, at the approximate location of X: -574, Y: 395.

You will now need to pick the lock using a character with a strong DEX stat, beating a DC 18 to unlock the door. For the likes of a Rogue, Ranger, or even some Bard characters, this should be no problem – especially if you’re stacking bonuses such as Guidance or Bardic Inspiration on top of the roll.

As soon as the door unlocks, you will be thrown into combat, as a hostile Merregon Legionnaire and several Hellboar are waiting for you on the other side.

In order to gain the last two Devilfoil Masks, you will need to beat all of these enemies in combat. Once complete, the third Devilfoil Mask can be looted from the corpse of the Merregon Legionnaire.

The fourth mask is located at the back of the room, sitting on the table between a bunch of candles.
