Jump Space, previously known as Jump Ship, lets you handle a spaceship with your crew. You get to explore the unknowns of space with your crewmates and fight off unwanted visitors. While exploring these strange planets, you might bump into artifacts that don’t have any known uses from the get-go. This guide will explain what exactly Artifacts do in Jump Space.
How to Get Artifacts in Jump Space
Artifacts are found randomly during exploration or by completing missions. There are two types of artifacts to find; cosmetic artifacts and perk artifacts.
Perk Artifacts Explained

Out of the two, Perk Artifacts offer the most benefits, as they give various buffs and bonuses to your ship and crew. They are usually found during missions, but are also picked up while scavenging planets. Perk artifacts for yourself are automatically activated and equipped once you collect them. These can range from increasing your ship’s damage to healing your ship, to the more exotic ones like increased melee damage when holding a pizza slice! Picking up another artifact will give you the option to either swap it with your current one or send it to the ship’s inventory.
Artifacts for your ship will automatically be stored in your ship’s artifact slots. Once they are full, they will be sent to inventory. Interacting with the ship slots will help you swap or upgrade existing artifacts. Like most loot, these artifacts will disappear once you change locations, so use up any important perks to advance your team.
Cosmetic Artifacts Explained
There isn’t much known about cosmetic artifacts, as they are purely decorative. Cosmetics spawn randomly across the planets, but sometimes you might receive them as a reward after completing certain missions. If you spot one in the wild, collect it and bring it back. If your ship has decoration slots, then place the cosmetic artifacts on it. You might have to keep upgrading your ship and complete missions till you get the option to place cosmetic artifacts in your ship.
How to Use Artifacts

While cosmetic artifacts are used as ship decoration, perk artifacts do have some important uses. Since most perks will disappear when you leave a location, you could either turn any unused artifacts into materia or use them to upgrade your preferred artifact to help improve your current run.
If you check out the artifact slots on your ship, it shows all the currently active perks. Select the perk you wish to upgrade, then add any unwanted perks to level it up. But, if you plan on leaving, then it is best to turn all your perks into materia and use them up in repairing and upgrading your Jump Space ship.
