The early access for Hades II is off to a flying start as expected; with more than 88000 players active as per Steam data – and all this within a day of the early access release.
The all-time peak for Hades was 37K at the time of its release 4 years ago – and even that is up for grabs as the 24-hour peak for that game stands close to this number at 32K. Clearly, the players can’t seem to have enough of the early access and are probably going back to the first game to brush up on some moves – the game had fantastic but difficult combat.

The sequel will have Melinoe – the Princess of the Underworld as the protagonist with new locations , challenges and upgrades; and is easily one of the most anticipated games for the year; thanks to the brilliantly designed and extremely well received Hades – which currently sits at a score of 93 on Metacritic that launched first on Epic Games Store and then on Steam in Sep 2020.
Update: The full version of the game was then released in Sep 2025 for PC, and then later for consoles in Apr 2026. The peak player count settled at 112k; and at the time of updating this article, the game sits at an impressive 94.38% score on SteamDB after 123k reviews. Hades 2 since then went on to win the Best Action Game at The Game Awards 2025, and at the 29th Annual D.I.C.E Awards.
Changes that were praised was the addition of a dash button, different routes that could be taken as compared to the relatively linear structure of the first game, and the impressive voice cast – both returning and new. If anything, the full launch has only improved the Metacritic score from the Early Access one of 93 to now 95.
The time spent in Early Access clearly helped (as looks to be the case with this city-building game currently in EA and with this much-loved and well-received game), as did the constant patches, updates and improvements – for example, post the full game release, the developers, working on the feedback of not that great an ending, went ahead and put up additional scenes and the ending.
