After your very first Needle upgrade at the Pinmaster, you have the option to get the second upgrade by completing a quest. The second upgrade requires us to obtain Pale Oil and hand the item to the Pinmaster to upgrade the needle. In this guide, we will cover the location of Pale Oil to get to the second upgrade for Needle in Hollow Knight: Silksong.
Where Can You Find Pale Oil in Hollow Knight: Silksong?

You will find Pale Oil in the Whispering Vault area. But getting to the area will not be an easy task; you will have to hop over many cogs and enemies to get to the place. We have provided a screenshot above to help you find the quickest direction to Whispering Vault from Cogwork Core.
After defeating the Cogwork Dancers at the top of the Coral Chambers, defeating the dancers will allow you to get to the new area, Cogwork Core. Here, you need to make your way down until you see an opening on the right. Now you have to climb up until you see another opening on the right.
Some of the platforming here is tough, as you have to bounce off many enemies and moving cogs to get the jump on the ledge or platform. We highly recommend that you gain the dash or double jump ability to get through this stage without bashing the controller.
The general move you should rely on is POGO off the enemies to get the jumps properly. When you are doing this move on the moving cogs, make sure ot do it on the side of the cog instead of directly hitting the center.
Once you enter the small area on the right, you will encounter another platforming challenge, but this one is fair and simple. Once you get to the end, hit the lever on the top, next to the door, to open it. Now interact with the other lever, and it will create a path to a new area called Whispering Vault.
Now follow the path and then jump down until you arrive in the small room located to the west of Whispering Vault, attached to the Coral Chambers on the left. In this room, you have to solve the block puzzle to reveal the area with a lever. Hitting the lever will open the door to the small room that will have the precious Pale Oil.
Now head back to Bellhart, talk to the Pinmaster, and once you hand over the Pale Oil, you will be able to upgrade the Needle a second time in Hollow Knight: Silksong.
