Complex moves are embedded into Skateboarding, and the game also focuses on chaining one trick to another with seamless transitions. ‘Skate.‘ has plathora of tricks that you can use to make everything flow smoother and feel downright amazing to pull off. Here is the ultimate guide to excel at the Trick System in Skate.

    Perform Easy 360

    Full Circle

How to do: First, hold the start of any trick button on the right analog stick and on the left analog stick, pull the stick down, and then move it to either left or right.

Here we are basically winding our shoulders for faster spins. When we twist our shoulders, it gives us enough strength to pull a 360 perfectly on a flat surface. If you don’t wind your shoulder to gather the strength, you will do a 180 instead of a 360. Quicker spins will allow you to perform more intricate tricks in the air before you land on the ground. Learning the fast spins also helps you rack up score points and enter a more advanced playing field.

    Perform Reverts or Quick Rotation

How to do: Move the left stick half a circle for 180 or a full circle for a complete spin.

The best thing about doing a Revert is that your skateboard never leaves the ground; all four wheels stay in touch with the ground during a Revert. It will help you keep your line multiplier active to continue with your tricks. Basically, you are performing the spin rotation without popping, just a quick slide to the other side.

    Perform Powerslides

How to do: When you’re moving fast, just move down the left analog stick.

Once you have the speed by your side, heading straight, full 90, just hold down the left analog stick, and you will perform a powerslide. Powrslides will put pressure on one side of the skateboard, so when you pull this move on the road, you will see that you skate sideways, and the other side of the skate will get lifted off the ground.

    Nose Slide with no Popping

How to do: During grind, rotate the right analog stick in a quarter, half, or full circle.

When you are performing a grind or slide on the curb or on the rails, just rotate the right analog stick to move around without any popping in between. You will slide across the curb in one smooth flow without popping into different angles. The nose or the back of the skate stays in touch with the ground, and the rest of the skate moves around at different angles.

    Moving Weights

How to do: While grinding or sliding, just move the left analog stick either to the left or right to move your weight.

Shifting weights to one side or the other will allow you to easily drop off the ground, either to your left or right. Let’s say you are doing a nose slide on the curb, but you don’t want to drop to the side here, you can hold the left analog stick to your left to get all four wheels on the curb. In short, you can move the weight towards the edge of the curb to drop off or the weight away from the edge to ride on the curb.

    Perform No Comply

How to do: First, press either the A or X button on the controller and then perform an ollie. You can perform an ollie by moving the right analog stick down and then flicking it up.

No comply removes your front foot off the board to the side of the skate while the back foot flips the skateboard to a 180. The sky is the limit here; you can also perform front and back side variations of no comply.

    Perform Hippie Jump

    Full Circle

How to do: Press A and X on Xbox or Square and X on PlayStation simultaneously to perform a Hippie Jump.

Hippie Jump allows you to jump without bringing the skateboard along with your feet. Here, you can perform different types of jumps while in the air by pressing the left or right trigger on the controller. The best place to perform the hippie jump is near the rail, as you will see the skateboard going under the rail while the character jumps into the air and lands on the skateboard once it passes through the rail. But if the skateboard hits anything on its way, then you will land on the floor.

    Perform ollies north and south.

How to do: Just press either A and X on Xbox or Square and X on PlayStation while in the air.

It’s a neat little trick while performing ollie north, the character lifts up his front foot in the air, and in ollie south, the back foot gets lifted up. You can perform this trick after flips or on grinds.

    Perform Caveman

How to do: Just be on your feet, jump, and then press Y (Xbox) or Triangle (PlayStation) to bring up the skateboard to ride along.

When you jump, press Y as you are about to land on the ground. The character will throw the skateboard on the ground, under his feet, to start the ride. This trick builds up a huge amount of speed that you can chain to other tricks perfectly. A perfect place to do the cavement is jump off a long story building, use the gliding mechanics to fly in the air bit, then as you are about to land, press Y to pull the board and ride along.

    Perform Versatile Grabs

    Full Circle

Here we will list out all the grabs you can do in the game.

    • While holding the grab button, press either A or X on Xbox or Square or X on PlayStation to take a single foot off the skateboard. You can also perform a foot plant. If you pull this move right before you land on the ground, then you will see your character placing his foot on the ground for a few seconds to propel himself above it.
    • Pressing B (Xbox) or circle (PlayStation) on certain grabs to do no foot variations.
    • While performing grabs, if you move the left analog stick upwards or backwards, you will perform a front or back flip. Rotating the flip will also perform a barrel roll. Here, you just have to rotate the left stick to the left or right.

Other Helpful Tricks and Tips for Skate.

    • You can perform lip tricks just by holding down the left analog stick as you are about to skate to the edge of the ramp or coping. Performing a lip trick will make you get on the edge of coping instead of going over it.
    • You can perform flip tricks in mid-air; all you have to do is press the flip’s flick motion while in the air after any other trick or ollie.
    • Do a wallie by skating straight into the medium to low height obstacle and performing an ollie a bit later than usual.
    • Perform a slappy by riding the skateboard into the small curb or obstacle at a 45-degree angle to start an automatic slide. There is no additional trick here; you just use the angle of the skateboard to perform the grind.
    • Perform a firecracker while going down the stairs. Just put all of your weight into the back of the skate to perform this trick. Just hold the manual to perform the firecracker as you’re about to head down the stairs.

Check this excellent video by Boomstick Gaming for all the tricks that we ran through in Skate.

Learning the mechanics here will take some time; the game offers a range of moves for the beginner to the advanced player. With a bit of practice, you can easily see yourself doing some amazing stuff in skate.
